Shopkeeper Apprentices are full-time employees sharing the same responsibilities as the Shopkeeper including accounting, scheduling, inventory/ordering, and all HR functions (hiring, training, development, and performance management of all team members). This full-time position also involves working variable shifts, including opening shifts, closing shifts, and/or weekend shifts.
Shopkeeper Apprentices report directly into a Shopkeeper and can act as the second-in-command at a full shop or as first-in-command at a low volume/complexity location. Shopkeeper Apprentices undergo ongoing training and development from their Shopkeeper throughout their time in the position to best prepare them to support the shops in their market as well as for success in a future Shopkeeper position.

In addition to welding, the successful candidate must be able to assist in tasks related to welding such as fit‐up, preparation, repair, inspection, and post weld preparation. As required, the Apprentice Welder will also be tasked to assist with general site work such as loading and unloading equipment and materials, site clean‐up and preparation, mobilization, and demobilization to and from the jobsite, scaffolding erection, general tank construction tasks and other duties as assigned.
This role is intended for May 2026 college graduates who majored in an applicable field. Primary Purpose:
To assist in the attainment of District goals through effective and efficient maintenance and repair of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Valid Texas driver's license with a good driving record
Must have a satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting background check. Non-refundable fee (approximately $50.00) paid by candidate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of HVAC repairs, maintenance, and installation techniques
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written reference material
Ability to use hand and power tools
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Ability to pass alcohol and drug test
Experience:
Experience in HVAC systems maintenance
Experience in filter media change out relative to HVAC systems
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
General

Fabricates, assembles and install various sizes of filter media in various locations.
Receives and completes work orders.
Assists Journeyman in service, installation and repair of HVAC systems.
Safety
Performs preventive maintenance on tools and equipment.
Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.
Ensure that equipment is in safe operating condition.
Follow established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
Correct unsafe conditions in work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise general maintenance worker when assigned.
Equipment Used:
Meter, gage, welding equipment, ladder, hoist, hand and power tools, pipe bender, propane torch. Light truck or van.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Continual walking, standing, climbing, stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching, and heavy lifting and carrying. Work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, outside and inside. Exposure to extreme temperatures. Frequent districtwide travel.
