Summary
In the role of Helper/Apprentice, you will play a pivotal role by assisting in the installation, maintenance, and repair of garage doors, dock equipment, automatic pedestrian doors, and related systems. Prior experience is not a prerequisite, as we provide thorough on-the-job training.
Duties
Assist with the installation of garage door products per manufacture specifications.
Gather and prepare materials needed for install and service jobs.

Your Role:
As an assistant to the Lead Plumber, you'll play a key role in:
Assisting with the installation of plumbing systems and accessories.
Keeping job sites clean and organized.
Utilizing basic phone and computer skills for daily tasks.
Ensuring a safe working environment at all times.

Carter Machinery Company, the authorized Caterpillar dealer for Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and Washington D.C., is hiring Apprentice Technicians for our Heavy Equipment, Rental, and Power Systems operations in Chesapeake, Virginia. We service the full Caterpillar product line, including earthmoving equipment, mining, forestry, generators, engines and more. For individuals with a strong mechanical aptitude who are graduating high school, veterans exiting the military, or technicians wanting to change from other mechanical fields (i.e., automotive, HVAC, etc.) you may be a great candidate for our in-house fully accredited 15-month Apprenticeship Program. High School diploma or GED, required. Completion of a mechanical VoTech program or mechanical experience preferred (i.e. automotive, electrical, HVAC, etc.)
This program will provide the training needed to pave the way to a Caterpillar technician career path with a great company. The program will train and develop you to troubleshoot and diagnose diesel equipment problems, perform repairs, recondition and service heavy equipment and components, all while being paid, receiving full-time benefits, and not incurring any education expenses. In many locations, Carter offers multiple shift opportunities (1, 2 and weekend), including some 3-day/week and 4-day/week options. Requirements for our Caterpillar Apprentice Technician positions include:
Self-starter able to work with limited supervision and meet deadlines.
Strong mechanical aptitude and excellent troubleshooting skills
Proficient in the use of a computer, Microsoft Office products and service software required in position; able to complete service reports and provide pertinent details for work orders.
Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to write service reports that accurately document diagnosis and repairs performed. Must prepare required documentation including work orders, parts lists, and time cards in an accurate and timely manner.
Able to read and understand operating manuals.
Must be able to occasionally operate heavy equipment.
Must be self-directed, organized, able to interact with coworkers, and work as an integral part of a team.
Must be able to work all shifts and overtime as needed to meet customer needs.

This role involves hands-on training, assisting with field jobs, and contributing to customer satisfaction by helping ensure that all work is completed efficiently and accurately.
Essential Job Functions:
* Learn to diagnose and complete basic repair and maintenance tasks, both in the shop and on-site under supervision.
* Support senior technicians by gathering tools, parts, and service work orders, and preparing the work area.
* Observe and assist in ensuring that all work meets company standards for quality and safety.
* Participate in ongoing training to develop technical skills and product knowledge.
* Maintain a clean, organized workspace, including the equipment yard and shop areas.
* Assist in ensuring a safe working environment by following safety protocols and learning to operate equipment safely.
