Description: CZBG's Elephant Trek team is looking for qualified individuals interested in being considered for Non-FT keeper positions. Those selected for consideration will be placed in an applicant pool for a period of up to 1 year. They may be contacted for seasonal or temporary positions as they become available during that time.
Summary: This position encompasses skilled professional and technical work in the routine husbandry of CZBG's 8 elephants and the cleaning and maintenance of their barn and yards. The two positions have varying levels of responsibility and pay: Seasonal Keepers work 25 hr/wk for up to 10 months at a rate of $15/hr; Temporary Keepers may work up to 32 hr/wk for up to 11 months at a rate of $21.73/hr. Duties may include related tasks and/or unrelated duties as assigned.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Clean animal yards, holding areas, service areas, public sections and grounds
Identify maintenance issues and correct or repair each as required, reporting non-correctable maintenance issues, including potential safety hazards.
Maintain records of health, behavior, enrichment, operant conditioning and visitor engagement
Prepare and follow prescribed diets and feeding procedures
Perform operant conditioning and enrichment programs when instructed
Assist in the training of volunteers, interns, and vocational students
Assist FT animal staff with animal care, observations, and medication administration
Provide engaging interactions with guests
Interact with the public and Zoo staff in a professional and courteous manner
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will:
Have demonstrated knowledge and interest in elephant management and care
Have relevant experience working with large animals and familiarity with animal husbandry
Show an understanding of operant conditioning and enrichment, or an interest in developing those skillsets where appropriate.

Animal Care Intern - Carlisle Visitor Center

The Lorain County Metro Parks is looking for an experienced, motivated, and committed individual to join the Naturalist Department at the Carlisle Visitor Center in providing quality animal care to our wildlife program ambassadors, outdoor native plant garden, and subsequent programming. Ideal candidates for the position should have previous experience working with and providing care for captive live animals, preferably reptiles and raptors. Qualified candidates will be offered 24 hours a week, with some evening, weekend, and holiday hours as necessary. This individual must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions and in all seasons.
This internship runs January-July 2026. The start date can be flexible depending on the chosen candidate's availability.
RATE OF PAY: $12/hour

It is imperative for this individual to be invested in the professional care and management of wildlife program ambassador animals and public education regarding local wildlife. Working knowledge of positive reinforcement training and a focus on animal welfare is also preferred. Summary: This position encompasses skilled professional and technical work in the routine daily care of assigned animals, enclosures and related facilities in the North America Department. Animals within this department include, North American river otters, Southern sea otters, black bears, raptors, canids, and manatees, with three species involved in active USFWS recovery programs (Mexican gray wolf, Florida manatee and southern sea otter). Work assignments will rotate between the four areas of the NA department: Manatee Springs, Wolf Woods, Sea Otter Coast and Bear Ridge. Duties include:

Complete inspection of all enclosures and life support systems to ensure the safety and welfare of the animals

Observe general animal health and behavior, on a daily basis, and report any abnormal circumstances to a supervisor
Maintain records of health, behavior, enrichment, operant conditioning and visitor engagement

Conduct operant conditioning, animal experience plans and enrichment programs in assigned areas

Position Detals & Benefits
This is a full-time (40 hours per week with benefits) keeper position, which is subject to the successful completion of a probationary period and the deduction of union dues.
Regular off-days will be determined upon hire but will fall between Tuesday - Thursday.
Position is hourly, non-exempt, and the starting pay range is between $22.27 - $30.54/hour determined by years of field experience.
