Arapahoe Community College company history timeline
So on May 4, 1965, a better-informed and more civically-minded public established Arapahoe Junior College (AJC).
Arapahoe Community College, founded in 1965 as Arapahoe Junior College, was the first 2-year college in the greater Denver metro area.
1965 - Arapahoe Junior College opens and welcomes its first 550 students.
By September 1966, Doctor Crawfurd and 23 faculty members welcomed the first class of 550 full- and part-time students.
ACC has been accredited since 1970.
1970 - The College joins the Colorado Community College and Occupational Education System and is renamed Arapahoe Community College (ACC).
Doctor Crawfurd, who had been so instrumental in AJC's growth (400%) and speedy accreditation, retired in 1972.
1974 - The Main Building on the Littleton campus is completed.
Other buildings around campus continued to be used, and the old West School building was renamed North Building and received extensive renovations in 1983.
The Art and Design Center, on the corner of Alamo St and Prince St, was opened in 1990 and is the home to the college's art, fine art, design and technology programs.
In 2000 ACC completed a nearly $13 million expansion.
2001 - ACC completes a $13 million renovation of the Main Building on the Littleton Campus to house the Weber Center for Learning Resources (the library) and additional classrooms.
In 2001, a new campus building in Parker was constructed next to Chaparral High School and opened as the University Center of Chaparral which worked with Arapahoe Community College, the University of Colorado at Denver, and the Douglas County School District.
In 2010, it became a part of ACC and was renamed the Arapahoe Community College Parker Campus.
2011 - UCC is renamed the Arapahoe Community College Parker Campus.
2011 - The College expands again with the opening of the Arapahoe Community College Castle Rock Campus.
In January 2017, the college announced plans to construct a $40 million campus in the Meadows community of Castle Rock, Colorado.
