  • Associates Degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field. Prior on-the-job archeology experience may substitute for educational requirements.
  • Previous experience in archaeology.
  • Ability to conduct fieldwork for long hours in a desert environment featuring extreme temperatures, rough terrain, and potential high altitudes.
  • Ability to carry up to 60 pounds of equipment and supplies.
  • Ability to bend and kneel for long periods of time.
  • Ability to travel out of town for work throughout the western United States, often on short notice and for extended periods (paid drive time, per diem, and hotel provided).

About The Job

We are growing our team and seeking qualified, experienced archaeological technicians for seasonal, As-needed/variable hour work based out of Portland. The position will support cultural resources field efforts in the Pacific Northwest region and provides a great opportunity for a motivated individual to help grow an excellent cultural resources team.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Effectively conduct archaeological field and lab work (or related office tasks) under the direction and supervision of a Dudek staff archaeologist

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology or Anthropology
  • Experience with a wide range of archaeological field methods including pedestrian survey and shovel testing, testing/evaluation and data recovery excavations, and archaeological construction monitoring
  • Ability to operate field equipment, including GPS equipment, cameras, and tablets
  • Current valid driver’s license and the ability to safely operate a 4wd vehicle on rugged, backcountry roads
  • Must have the ability to be insured to drive a vehicle and/or current auto-insurance
  • Physical ability to carry equipment and supplies (up to 40 lbs.) and walk or hike for long hours during fieldwork

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completed an accredited field school certification
  • Previous archaeological survey experience in one or more of the following states: Oregon, Washington
  • Experience recording a variety of site and isolate types one or more of the following states: Oregon, Washington
  • Knowledge of and experience using ESRI Collector/Field Maps
  • Ability to provide and receive feedback
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships
  • Ability to resolve conflict through collaboration and communication
  • Understanding and willingness to safely accommodate difficult weather and other environmental conditions and challenges
  • Willingness to travel to a project location for several consecutive days
