ASC Group, Inc., is a cultural and natural resources consulting firm headquartered in Columbus, Ohio. We have immediate openings for Archaeology Field Technicians for projects located in Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, and Kentucky, which are ongoing and starting soon. These include a Phase III investigation of a major Fort Ancient village site and Phase I, II investigations of Woodland period sites in the Scioto Valley. Field technicians will be working under the supervision of a Field Supervisor and/or Principal Investigator. The ongoing and future projects should see work through the late summer.
The work will involve archaeological excavation (i.e., test units), feature documentation, mapping and profiling, shovel testing, surface survey, and screening for artifacts. Phase III investigations are primarily in heated tents.
Minimum requirements include an Associate's degree or Bachelor's degree in Anthropology, Archaeology, or a related field; field school or archaeological field experience (previous work in Cultural Resource Management preferred); good organizational skills; and ability to maintain neat and accurate field notes. Pay starts at $20/hr and is based on experience. Per-diem ($41/day) and lodging is provided for all project work requiring overnight stays away from your home office, and paid sick time accrual is offered.
You must provide personal PPE like gloves and boots. Other required PPE will be provided.

Job Responsibilities
* Manage complex projects and assigned staff for successful execution of project components/tasks and ensuring scope and costs documented in project contract are followed correctly and efficiently;

* Supervise, schedule, and coordinate the work of staff archaeologists, paleontologists, and architectural historians; as-needed/on-call staff, interns and others who assist in specific assignments;
* Review the work product prepared by staff prior to internal management, agency and client submittal;
* Coordinate and perform field inspection services, as needed;
* Mentor, coach, and train staff. Develop training materials as requested;
* Collaborate with company, practice and office team members on project tasks and assignments;
* Assist other work groups within the same or different office locations and/or within the same or different disciplines on an as-needed basis;
* Participate in cross-discipline training and assist with projects outside one's own discipline;
* Remain current on cultural resource standard practices, guidelines, regulations, and best management practices and attend training to expand knowledge and skills; and

Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Archaeology, Anthropology or closely-related field; Graduate degree (M.A. or Ph.D.) a plus;
* Register of Professional Archaeologist (RPA) a plus;
* 6+ years professional experience in Archaeology;
* Demonstrated experience preparing archaeological studies, reports, and plans, and successfully designing and leading archaeological fieldwork;
* Demonstrated laboratory and technical analysis expertise;
* Strong, concise writing, research, and data management skills;
* Understanding of and practical experience in regulatory requirements specifically Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and have the ability to clearly communicate federal, state, and local regulatory requirements to clients;
* Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to concisely explain services in laymen terms.;
* Experience in developing, communicating, and promoting services for business development purposes a plus;
* Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical and judgment capabilities;
* Ability to multi-task effectively and work well individually and within groups;
* Ability and strong commitment to oversee, coach and train staff;
* Able to safely and efficiently complete strenuous physical labor including but not limited to walking up to 16 miles a day, lifting 50 pounds and hand-digging;

Job Description
As a Project Archaeologist at ICF, you will lead and/or contribute to archaeology and cultural resources studies as either stand-alone projects or as part of larger multi-disciplinary projects. Duties Description The seasonal field technician will be a part of a team working on population monitoring and habitat/life history description for the Atlantic Coast Leopard Frog (Lithobates kauffeldi) to meet the goals of NYSDEC's State Wildlife Action Plan. Duties of this technician include installation and maintenance of automated audio recording systems, identifying frog calls from recordings, capturing frogs and fitting them with radio transmitters, tracking frogs using radio telemetry, habitat assessment via water and vegetation sampling, data entry and organization, and other duties as deemed necessary. Work will take place in wetlands and require navigation through muddy terrain with thick vegetation. The technician must be able to work in rain and windy conditions. Other wildlife surveying such as assistance with duck banding, river otter surveys, and muskrats surveys may be required.
Minimum Qualifications Thirty (30) semester credit hours, including 12 semester credit hours in fisheries, marine resources or wildlife management; mariculture; marine biology; aquaculture; aquatic, marine or terrestrial ecology; zoology; marine technology; botany; limnology; hydrology; or oceanography.
Additional Comments This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2026, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.

* Projects involve a considerable amount of overnight travel, projects may be all over the country. The field-testing portion of each project typically lasts from 1 to 5 days and the test teams are generally home on the weekends, but some projects may require working or traveling on a weekend. The number of people needed in the field and the number of days in the field, varies with each project and changes from week to week. Expect 75% of the weeks to involve field work.
* When not in the field, duties may include equipment calibrations and repairs, prep and packing for future projects.
* During testing, the Environmental Technician will be at the location recording data, operating equipment, or working in the trailer recovering samples, performing analysis, etc.
* The Environmental Technician will become proficient in the various EPA sampling methods and develop knowledge about many types of industrial processes.
Qualifications
Requirements:
* Must be able to comfortably lift and carry 50 pounds. The testing projects can involve moving equipment to, and working at, elevated test locations, such as an exhaust stack platform or a rooftop. Access to the test location may be by elevator, stairs, or a ladder.
* Must be able to work comfortably throughout all the seasons as much of the work is outdoors.
* Completion of assigned responsibilities in a team setting with strong written and oral communication skills, and moderate computer skills.
* Successful completion of a background check and drug test (including marijuana) prior to employment or within five working days from date of hire. Once hired, participation in the TRC random drug testing program.
* Possession of a valid driver's license and successful completion of a pre-employment motor vehicle records check to confirm a good driving record. Once hired, maintaining valid DOT driver status (not Commercial Driver's License) is required.
* Successful completion of all required annual safety training.
* High School diploma or GED is required.
