Archbishop Stepinac High School was founded in 1948, through the efforts of 48 Catholic parishes in Westchester County under the leadership of our patron, Archbishop Francis Cardinal Spellman and named after Aloysius Cardinal Stepinac of Zagreb, Croatia.
Archbishop Stepinac High School opened in 1948.
Resident at the high school and in semi-retirement was the distinguished Catholic scholar, educator, and author Edwin Ryan, D.D. (later Msgr. It began with freshman and sophomore years and reached its full complement in 1950.
Due to pain caused by the many illnesses he contracted while imprisoned, Cardinal Stepinac died in Krasic on February 10, 1960.
In 1985, his trial prosecutor Jakov Blazevic admitted that Cardinal Stepinac's trial was entirely framed, and that Stepinac was tried only because he refused to sever thousand-year old ties between Croatians and the Roman Catholic Church.
Until September 1, 2009 Stepinac was part of the Archdiocese of New York’s Catholic High School Association.
O'Keefe's suspension was announced in a December 16, 2015, letter to parishioners from New York's archbishop, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who called the allegation "credible."
