The Senior Project Architect is responsible for working with clients through programming and schematic design, overseeing the development of design concepts through construction documents, and staying involved throughout the construction process through construction administration. The Senior Architect may also assist firm Principals in engaging with prospective clients and participate in other business development functions. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES * Developing client and consultant relationships. * Participating in business development by engaging with prospective clients. * Responsible for quality and completeness of communications with clients and consultants during all phases of work including construction. * Primary point of accountability for design of specific architectural projects as assigned. Understands character and needs of project's client and manages client expectations. Assists in client selection process and works with them to complete on schedule. * Provide leadership and experienced guidance to the architectural team. * Responsible for meeting design goals within agreed upon architectural budgets and schedules and construction budgets and schedules. Fully understands contractual obligations in design. Available for occasional weekend meetings. * Reviews job sites periodically to determine if execution is consistent with contract documents. Reports lack of consistency to Construction Project Directors and Architectural Project Managers promptly. QUALIFICATIONS * B. Arch, M. Arch, or equivalent degree; * Architectural Licensure; * Minimum 10 years of applicable design experience; * Interest in traditional shingle-style vernacular architecture * Able to self-motivate and work well under deadlines; * Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal and strong ability to manage client relationships; * Excellent written and oral communication skills; * Demonstrate strong commitment to quality; * Able to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment; * Experience with various design presentation programs. WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS * Office and/or field environment. Travel to off-site locations may be required. * Manual dexterity to operate office equipment, file, and perform specialized skills. * Needs a high degree of concentration in a busy office environment.

Provides professional, technical, planning, design, project management, and construction administrative work on a wide variety of projects relating to municipal facilities (buildings, grounds, cemeteries, etc.). May occasionally be required to provide technical and project management services for horizontal or marine infrastructure projects. Duties include conducting research, field verification, data collection, performing evaluations, planning, design, drafting, construction inspection, survey, contracting, and project management; all other related work as required; all other related work as assigned. Position(s) funded 100% through the Barnstable Capital Improvement Project funds. Elimination of this funding will result in elimination of this position and separation of the employee from this position. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor s Degree in Architecture and three to five years of progressively responsible relevant experience in the design, construction and supervision of construction of buildings in Massachusetts; or any equivalent combination of education and experience. Class D drivers license required. Registered Architect License preferred, at a minimum must be working towards architectural registration. Additional Qualifications: Knowledge of the principles and practices of Architecture, and of the materials, methods and techniques of public works. Knowledge of state and federal rules and regulations governing public construction. Technical knowledge and experience in design, construction and inspection problems commonly encountered in municipal design and construction activities. Knowledge of Massachusetts procurement laws, contract administration and project management. Working knowledge of computer applications related to architectural functions. Ability to plan, design, and manage complex projects. Ability to interpret and follow engineering and architectural plans. Ability to develop and effectively manage construction budgets. Ability to conduct cost analyses, value engineering and cost management for large-scale construction projects. Ability to prepare comprehensive reports. Ability to prepare and administer grants. Demonstrated ability to meet and deal appropriately and effectively with a large variety of people. Demonstrated ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of subordinates; and to evaluate their performance. Ability to work in a close-knit, team environment. Strong communication and presentation skills. Proficiency in the use of computers including word processing, spreadsheets, database, PowerPoint, AutoCAD Architecture Software, and engineering design software. Team oriented attitude.
