Compensation:

Staff Cloud Platform Engineering Architect

Work Classification: Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Austin, Texas or Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum. The Role: The Staff Systems Engineer for Vehicle Engineering & Quality IT (VEQ IT) is responsible for defining and managing the complex engineering and architecture activities of various Cloud and SaaS platforms of GM Defense. This role is critical to Second generation compute, GEN2 compute of GM Defense to enable domestic and international business growth alleviating pain points. This role works closely with the principal systems engineering leader in implementing computing strategy, selection of various SaaS/Cloud platforms and alignment to overall Software strategy including AI, SaaS and Cloud solutions.
The ideal candidate for this role will be comfortable in conducting assessment of required foundational approaches to build secure Cloud foundation, leveraging telecom infrastructure, define and execute secure policies. Deep hands on and proven expertise is essential in setting up automated pipeline processes, policy scripting, alignment to compliance and security controls. Excellent collaboration with technology experts and various application owners in engineering policies and CI/CD pipelines for application deployment and sustainment.
What You'll Do:
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams and influence stakeholders without direct authority to lead architecture and engineering of Cloud foundation and related constructs across the GEN2 compute of GM Defense.
* Research and evaluate various platform engineering options to determine the most suitable technology solutions
* Leverage strong analytical skills, relationships, and knowledge across technology and vendors to recommend solutions for platform automation
* Align to overall software organization platform engineering strategy yet specialize based on GM Defense portfolio specific needs

* Define and manage reusable scripts and other constructs utilizing enterprise approved code management and pipeline solutions
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
* Bachelor's degree in computer science/engineering/mathematics or a related field, or equivalent experience
* 7+ years of relevant experience in large organizations, platform engineering, code management, pipeline management, preferably in the automotive, manufacturing, and technology sectors
* 7+ years of DevOps or related functions with proficiency and prior experience in Terraform, IaC, Engineering policy as script
