    Job Summary: The Architecture Designer II will be responsible for planning, designing, and observing the construction of building facilities. Analyze and develop solutions in response to project objectives, program requirements, and budget of a project interactively with design team and clients. Participate in various predesign services, such as feasibility studies, site selection analyses, cost analyses, and design requirements documentation. Support Business Development by preparing deliverables lists, design schedules, conceptual drawings, writing technical and scope narratives, architectural programming, design, renderings, and animations. Meet with Owners and Design/Builders to glean program requirements; prepare architectural programming and relationship diagramming and blocking & stacking, master planning, and validate with Owners and Design/Builders. Perform field observations and obtain information on existing conditions. Perform planning studies, preliminary designs (including site masterplan and development, layouts, exterior, interior), Prepare technical specifications. CAD/BIM production support to lead architect for schematics and construction documents on select projects. Lead designer for select projects, potentially including supervision of small team of designers. Prepare take-offs and cost estimates on select project. Support and participate in design quality control. Provide proactive coordination with other design disciplines on select project. Develop schematic, design development and final construction documents that show the building's appearance and details for its construction. Develop project specifications as required. Research state and local building codes, zoning laws, fire regulations, and other ordinances, including the ADA. Generate solutions which respond to client's environmental and sustainability goals. Periodically visit building sites to ensure that contractors follow the design intent, use the specified materials, and meet work quality standards. Collaborate with Team Leader, Project Manager, Project Architect, and various engineering disciplines to develop creative, elegant and efficient solutions. Comply with Company's Quality Control and Project Management procedures. Promote a positive working environment in order to achieve the organization's goals. Perform other duties as assigned. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in a Vestal Corporation office. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and able to operate a computer and other office equipment. Must be able to move about the office to access office equipment and other office buildings within the Vestal office complex. This position frequently communicates with others and must be able to exchange accurate information. KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree in Architecture or similar is required. 5 - 10 Years of experience is preferred. Knowledge of design of architectural systems, construction documentation and associated technology Either in progress or able to begin immediately recording NCARB requirements for AXP (Architectural Experience Program) with goal of Architectural Registration in State of Missouri or Illinois. Professional experience in architectural duties via internships is preferred. Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office Suite is required. Demonstrate a high degree of aptitude in critical, creative thinking associated with design and the design process. Understanding of architectural specifications, international building codes, life safety code and current ADA requirements Knowledge of programming, planning, and building performance Participation in applicable AIA, NCARB, and/or community activities is preferred. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills. Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities. Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts. Responsible for the issuance and content of deliverables, technical content of HOK documents and coordination of disciplines including consultants and for the supervision of all staff producing documents. Primary responsibility for the implementation of Construction Phase Services in collaboration with the PM. Responsible for securing QA reviews and the implementation of comments. Must be a licensed architect and is responsible for signing/sealing drawings. Needs to participate in and contribute to a culture of technical excellence. RESPONSIBILITIES: Leadership Responsible for ensuring the overall design intent of the project established by the Project Designer is incorporated into the detailed documentation. Monitors the design process from conceptual phase through construction administration, ensuring the design idea is consistent and properly executed. Responsible for technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a project. Works with Specification Writer to develop specifications and is responsible for coordination of drawings and specifications. Checks completed reports, plans, estimates and calculations for accuracy. Sets the overall strategy for producing the documents and identifies the sheets planned for each stage of the work. This includes defining how data will be organized into files and which elements will be incorporated in a Building Information Model (BIM). Sets up project team software parameters and manages standards. Fosters and maintains a collaborative professional working relationship with the Project Leadership Team. Responsible for communication with other disciplines, vendors, and contractors to ensure incorporation of all information into project requirements and provides support as necessary. Ensures that construction detail documentation conforms to quality assurance, quality control and best practice standards. Supervises preparation of technical drawings by other less senior level architects or technicians. Performs as team leader on certain projects. Mentors and directs the work of less experienced staff, participates in professional development reviews and “Lessons Learned” sessions. Involved with specification set-up and drawing coordination, research and appropriate use of HOK Standards.
