Rütimann visited the facility in late April-early May 1991, and the Commission then asked Lynn to assess the project's technical aspects in September 1991.

The present objective is to scan about 10 percent of the archivo (or about eight million images) in preparation for the 1992 Seville World's Fair and the Columbus quincentenary.
