As a work from home Outpatient Coder, you will work outpatient coding related alerts/edits for same day surgery, observation, wound care, emergency department, and/or diagnostic areas predominately post initial/final coding. You will also perform the alert/edit resolution activities in the applicable systems. The alerts/edits shall be worked and corrected according to the established procedures and thresholds and communicated as appropriate.
**What you will do in this role:**
+ Compiles daily work list from eRequest, CRT and/or other alert/edit systems
+ Enters detailed notes to update eRequest to provide details if the alert/edit cannot be resolved or must be rerouted to another responsible party for research/resolution
+ Escalates alert/edit resolution issues as appropriate to minimize final billing delays
+ Monitors the aging of accounts held by an alert/edit, prioritizes aged accounts first, and reports to leadership
+ Works with team members in billing, revenue integrity and/or the Medicare Service Center to resolve alerts/edits
+ Communicates coding revisions to the applicable party (e.g., CIS, lead, manager, international log)
+ Completes MOCK abstracts as necessary (e.g., combining the codes for outpatient claims subject to the payment window)
+ Assists the Coding Leads and/or Coding Managers in resolving unbilled reason codes (URC)/Hold Reasons
+ As needed, may periodically be asked to perform Coding Integrity Specialist II (CIS-II) duties

+ You will perform highly technical and complex immunohistochemistry preparation, maintenance, quality control, and assurance steps and procedures in addition to basic histology procedures and maintenance.
+ You will perform procedures that are critical to the latest advances in anatomic pathology and you will use monoclonal antibody technology to aid in the determination of tumor etiology, which provides for the most appropriate cancer treatments available.
+ Your work will include prognostic marker detection as well as diagnostic algorithms.

Qualifications:
+ Must be board certified as a Histotechnologist/Histologist either by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) or the National Credentialing Clinical Laboratory Scientist (NCCLS).
+ Bachelor of Science degree in Histology, Chemistry, Biology, or equivalent field or equivalent degree approved by the Laboratory Medical Director.
+ Minimum 2 years of experience as a Histologist in an acute care hospital laboratory setting preferred.
+ Must be trained and have shown proficiency in performing tissue preparation work-up using monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies, special stains or other products such as in-situ hybridization that have been identified for use with automated or hand kits.
+ Must have good verbal and written skills and good computer knowledge and keyboarding skills.

* Ensure accurate documentation of observations and interventions in the medical record.
* Respond promptly to all call lights.
* Assist patients with mobility and basic tasks, such as bathing, dressing, eating, and other ADLs.
* Provide basic patient transport and housekeeping duties as needed.
* Participate in Purposeful Hourly Rounding and Bedside Shift Report as directed.
* Perform direct and indirect patient care duties as assigned and may provide clerical support to the assigned unit.
