Area Substance Abuse Council company history timeline

1962

Formed in 1962, ASAC is one of the most comprehensive substance use disorder prevention and treatment agencies in the state of Iowa.

1964

In 1964, a group of volunteers who shared common concerns about alcoholism affecting individuals and families within Butler County, Ohio, brought their personal and professional expertise to problem-solve.

1970

The agency pioneered free-standing inpatient alcoholism treatment in the mid-1970’s.

1980

In the 1980’s, the War on Drugs helped expand the conversation publicly on how to approach alcohol and chemical dependence.

1982

Organized in the fall of 1982, GSSAC was established as a community effort by business leaders, policymakers, and citizens to take a stand against drugs and violence.
