Principal Objectives/Purpose
The ACYR team builds pathways to success through education, skill building and employment opportunities to help youth and young adults reach self-sufficiency. Provides instruction, based on the Arizona Adult Education ELAA Standards, to prepare participants to successfully acquire the reading, writing, speaking and listening skills to complete the English Language program; and to transition to carer pathways and/or post-secondary education. Provides effective instruction to participants based on the Arizona Adult Education ELAA Teacher Standards.
Key Result Areas/Essential Functions
Follow ACYR Adult Education procedures for attendance, student enrollment, assessments, curriculum, and classroom instruction, and management.
Are aware of ADE - AES (Arizona Department of Education - Adult Education Services) goals and targets; strive to meet or exceed these goals
Participate in TABE and CLAS-E (Test of Adult Basic Education) training provided by ADE - AES
Progress and Exit test students at appropriate intervals using TABE and/or CLAS-E
Report all TABE data to Data Entry Specialist and Data and Student Service Coordinator
Keep accurate daily attendance and submit weekly to Data Entry Specialist and submit sign-in sheets monthly
Add appropriate resources to ACYR curriculum as found and/or developed to share with staff
Use of calendar, task and other accountability tools to create efficiencies, goals and performance goals
Calendar is organized and meetings are manageable to ensure ample time for meetings and other projects.
Schedules meetings as soon as possible or as directed by ABE Manager and ACYR Director of Education.
Provides effective instruction to participants based on the
Arizona Adult Education ABE Teacher Standards in English Language Arts and/or Mathematics
Providing effective classroom management and instruction.
Create lessons that comply with the ADE Standards and lead to participants' academic progress
Connect students to leadership opportunities (Ambassador training for AALL)
Set SMART goals with students and include as an on-going part of class
Participate in Professional Learning Communities and Professional Development as directed for ABE Program or ACYR
Development of community partnerships engage and retention strategies to meet participants needs.
Contact students who have stopped attending class and attempt to re-engage
Recruit for potential participants
Follow up with students who have exited the program and report findings to ABE Manager and/or Director
Ensure participants are connected to appropriate community support
Collaborate with other ACYR program managers to ensure ABE participants have access to work trainings and job opportunities
Supporting the vision and direction of ACYR's Administration Team.
Attend all ABE Program meetings
Attend and engages in activities and events at the direction of the Administration Team to support the ACYR vision and mission. Participate in and request professional development training
Engages in appropriate ACYR social media for events directly, and/or through contact with Media Relations
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Must have Adult Education Teaching Cert and valid Fingerprint Clearance Card
Knowledge of adult student characteristics and adult basic education content areas.
Ability to instruct students in the use of basic technology applications and integrate into instruction
Experience teaching/working with adult learners is a
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relationships.
Experience working with opportunity youth at a nonprofit organization, in an educational setting or classroom preferred.
Bi-lingual/Bi-cultural a must, preferably Spanish
