What You'll Do: Under supervision of the Dean of General Education, the adjunct instructor provides a learning experience in the classroom, online, and/or in the lab using a variety of teaching methods such as lectures and demonstrations and using audiovisual and technological aids to supplement the presentations as well as evaluating their achievements. * Keep students engaged in a classroom environment while following an established curriculum/syllabus. * Create positive educational climate for students to learn in while establishing and communicating clear objectives for all learning activities. * Meet course and school-wide student performance goals. * Manage student behavior in the classroom/online. Observe and evaluate student's performance. * Identify and refer students who are "at risk" of not being successful to the Student Success Coordinator. * Provide ongoing student advisement and academic counseling by tutoring and mentoring students on an individual basis when needed. * Grade tests and projects, maintain grade books, track attendance and perform other administrative duties as needed. * Administer oral, written, or performance tests to measure progress and to evaluate training effectiveness. * Participate in ongoing conferences, seminars, and training sessions (2 education in-services, 1 distance education in-service, proof of at least 2 professional development activity annually). * Provide input and participate in academic committees formed for the purpose of enrichment of both the programs and students.     The Police Trainee is a non-sworn, probationary position. The incumbent will remain a Police Trainee for the duration of training at a police academy. At the approval of the Chief of Police, the Police Trainee will be appointed into the classification of Police Office upon graduation from the training academy and completion of the probationary period. DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS A Police Trainee receives training in law enforcement and police methodology through a POST certified police academy to prepare for promotion to the classification of Police Officer. A Police Trainee is placed on a probationary period of no longer than six months during which the incumbent will attend a POST-certified intensive Regular Basic Course (training academy) that has been approved by the department. A Police Officer must have successfully completed the Regular Basic Course at a POST-certified police academy; carries a firearm; patrols the college campus; apprehends and arrests suspects; investigates unsafe and hazardous conditions; provides first aid; responds to requests for assistance and reports of crime; investigates incidents and prepares appropriate reports. A Police Officer is placed on a twelve-month probationary period during which he/she must complete the POST-Approved Field Training Program. Upon successful completion of a POST certified Regular Basic Course and the probationary period, the Police Trainee will be appointed to the class of Police Officer. SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED Receives immediate supervision from POST certified academy training staff while attending the police academy. Compensation Range: $ 35.00-50.00 /hour The Vocational Nursing (VN) Instructor is responsible for providing quality instruction to students that meet the program and course objectives. The VN Instructor should maintain an organized, disciplined classroom environment that is conducive to learning and imparts the requirements of the relevant workplace setting to existing students. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Understanding of education environments including needs of adult learners Ability to provide a positive and effective learning environment Knowledge and understanding of professional career paths for which students are enrolled Motivation, dedication and enthusiasm for teaching Good Organization and Communication Skills Credentials and Experience: An Associate's degree or higher in Vocational Nursing or a related area of study (ACCSC) A minimum of 4 years' experience as a RN or VN Shall have completed or be currently attending a course offered by an approved program to certify competency in teaching adult learners. Current CA license as RN or VN - must be in good standing At least one or more of the following (BVNPT requirement): Baccalaureate degree from accredited school or Valid Teaching Credential, or Completion of 1 year full-time teaching experience in state accredited or approved RN, VN within last 5 years, or Meets CA community college or state university teaching requirements Associates degree plus 6 years of experience or, Bachelor's degree plus 2 years of experience Completion of 24-hour Principle of Teaching the Adult Learner Course OR Teaching/Learning college course credits Employment Status: Adjunct, hourly, non-exempt. Adjunct faculty hours are determined by the scheduled courses in a particular module. Adjunct faculty are scheduled as needed with no guarantee of hours at any time and scheduled hours are generally under 25 per week.
