Marie, Ontario, and rose through increasingly responsible assignments to the position of superintendent. In 1993, he joined Rouge Steel Corporation in Dearborn, Mich., as superintendent – cold mill. Mr. Rintoul moved to Acme Steel Company in Riverdale, Ill., in 1995 as manager – hot strip mill at the company’s Compact Strip Plant. He became general manager – Compact Strip Plant in 1997 and general manager – steel manufacturing in 1999, a position he held until he was named vice president – operations at North Star BlueScope Steel in 2001. In 2005, he became vice president – operations at BlueScope’s Butler Manufacturing Company in Kansas City, Mo., a position he held until he joined U. S. Steel, as general manager of Granite City Works. Mr. Rintoul advanced to general manager – Great Lakes Works in 2008 with responsibility for day-to-day operations at U. S. Steel’s second largest integrated operation in the United States, which has an annual raw steelmaking capability of 3.8 million net tons and is located in Ecorse and River Rouge, Mich. In 2009, he was appointed president – U. S. Steel Canada Inc., adding management oversight for all U. S. Steel Canada operations to his existing responsibilities at Great Lakes Works. In 2011, Mr. Rintoul was elected vice president – European operations and president – U. S. Steel Košice and oversaw U. S. Steel Košice in the Slovak Republic. He also had responsibility for U. S. Steel Serbia in the Republic of Serbia until it was sold to the Serbian government in January 2012. In 2013, Mr. Rintoul returned to North America to fill the newly created post of vice president – innovation and continuous improvement and was responsible for leading the company’s worldwide continuous improvement efforts as well as fostering greater levels of innovation companywide. He was appointed senior vice president – tubular business in 2014 with executive responsibility for U. S. Steel Tubular Products, including operations and sales, energy services, and tubular business development activities.
