The technician coordinates their work under the supervision of the Lab & Studio Manager, works with the Woodshop & Three-Dimensional Studies Lab Manager, assists faculty from various departments, and is responsible for the direction of student workers in the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the facilities. The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of professional and safety practices in fabrication and shop operation as well as proficiency in creating molds for casting, woodworking, and finishing. In addition, those who demonstrate the ability to work in multidisciplinary approaches and practices (metals, ceramics, glass, fibers) will be given additional consideration. Candidates with shop safety or OSHA certification will be given priority. Primary Responsibilities: * Operate laboratory process equipment such as extruders, injection molder, and lamination press. * Perform routine and non-routine material testing using a wide variety of laboratory test instruments involving chemical, mechanical, microstructural, and environmental equipment. * Record all data and results into a lab management system (LIMS). * Resolve problems by examining and evaluating data and identifying corrective actions. * Assist in developing and writing standard operating procedures. * Responsible for maintenance and calibration of assigned equipment. * Ensure all safety guidelines are always followed and maintain a clean and orderly work environment. * Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities and researching areas of business interest.
