Armory Art Center company history timeline

1986

AN ART SCHOOL. On November 21, 1986, the Armory Art Center, Inc., was incorporated as a Florida not-for-profit corporation.

When the Norton Museum closed its art school in 1986, a dedicated group of artists, art teachers, and community activists formed the Armory Art Center to ensure the continuation of practical art instruction in Palm Beach County.

1987

The center opened its doors to the public in July 1987 as a result of generous contributions from its many supporters, most notably Robert and Mary Montgomery and the Historic Preservation and Cultural Facilities Grants of the State of Florida.

1992

On June 11, 1992, the building was certified on the National Register of Historic Places as the Old West Palm Beach National Guard Armory.

2001

In 2001, the Armory built a wholly-owned third building called the Young Artist Studio Facility, a two-story building dedicated to painting, drawing, printing, and fiber arts.

2003

The Ansin Kiln Complex, a further development of the ceramics and sculpture building, was dedicated on February 27, 2003.

2020

The Legacy Award at the 2020 Muse Awards by the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County

2021

Awarded Non-Profit of the Year in 2021 by the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches

2022

WINNER for ‘Best Art Gallery’, 2022 Best of Palm Beach County, The Palm Beach Post
