This position is located in the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD), Homeland Security Bureau (HSB), Special Operations Division (SOD), Air Support Unit (ASU). Qualifications
* Skill and a thorough knowledge of the make-up, operation, interrelationships, and installation of a variety of rotary wing aircraft systems, assemblies, structures, and surfaces.
* Skill to diagnose malfunctions throughout these systems, assemblies, and surfaces and determine whether repair or replacement is needed.
* Experience as a technical expert and authority as a helicopter mechanic.

Work Environment
Work is performed in varied settings and environmental conditions associated with flight line/airport/heliport/off base operations. Dirt, grease, and dust are often present. Aircraft fluids, such as oil and hydraulic fluids may irritate the eyes or skin. Flight line aircraft maintenance duty is inherently dangerous, and requires adherence to safety procedures. Mechanics are subject to cuts, bums, electrical shocks, strains, etc. Subject to exposure to high frequency and high-intensity noises that require wearing hearing protection.

* Drone Operations:

* Conduct pre-flight and post-flight checks to ensure drones are in optimal condition.

* Collaborate with other departments or teams to deliver actionable insights from collected data.

INTRODUCTION: The Racine Wastewater Utility is responsible for the recycling of municipal wastewater for return as a clean resource into Lake Michigan through the operation of advanced computer instrumentation and mechanical equipment. The Utility is designed to treat 36 mgd of regional flow serving the City of Racine, Village of Mount Pleasant, Village of Caledonia, Village of Sturtevant, Village of Elmwood Park, and Village of North Bay.
POSITION PURPOSE:
The purpose of this position is to perform plant maintenance work of a skilled nature.
Essential Duties
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
* Repairs and maintains wastewater machinery, physical structure, and equipment in accordance to blueprints or manuals, using hand or power tools.
* Inspects machinery and mechanical equipment for defect or malfunction.
* Dismantles machinery or equipment to access defective parts, and repairs or replaces using various hand tools.
* Cleans and lubricates equipment according to the manufactures recommendations and department preventative maintenance schedules.
* Repairs or replaces gages, valves, pressure regulators and other hydraulic or measuring equipment; opens clogged drains using plumbing equipment.
* Maintains physical structure using hand tools and power equipment either working independently or in tandem with other plant mechanics or personnel.
* May assist electrician in installing or replacing equipment and electrical apparatus.
* Participates in preventive maintenance program by keeping records of lubrication and repairs.
* Works with computerized maintenance program work orders and updating of computer information
* Maintains accurate electronic or hard copy records of lubrication and repairs in the utility preventive maintenance program.
* Works cooperatively with other Utility departments and staff to respond appropriately to emergency situations, or assist on projects in the plant.
* Adheres to all safety procedures and safety rules, as well as Utility work rules and policies.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
* High School graduation, or GED equivalent, and at least 18 years old.
* 5 years of prior verifiable professional mechanical experience working with pumps, compressors, blowers, or engines in an area related to industrial plant or commercial automotive maintenance; or a combination of years and education is preferred.
* Mechanical training and certification in HVAC, automotive, or electro-mechanical technology is a plus.
* A valid state-issued motor vehicle operating license.
ADDITIONAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
* Ability to apply good work practices by planning work and utilizing materials efficiently.
* Skill in analyzing, diagnosing, correcting mechanical failures and defects; including a working knowledge of mechanical functions, principles and techniques.
* Must have good mechanical aptitude, verifiable by past work experience.
* Advancement from mechanic grade H to garage mechanic grade I level upon supervisor recommendation based on the demonstration of skills and abilities associated with the diagnosis, tuning, and maintenance of plant power equipment (engines, blowers, and generators).
