This role reports to the Cardiac Cervices Manager, or their designees, and works closely with department cardiologists.
Duties And Responsibilities
**
Perform both high-quality inpatient and outpatient adult echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, and transesophageal echocardiograms in accordance with IAC guidelines, using AOMC established protocols.
**
Perform inpatient neonatal echocardiograms.
Achieve and maintain working knowledge and understanding of cardiac anatomy and physiology.
**
Administer ultrasound enhancement agent per protocol in accordance with the sonographer scope of practice and annual competency.
**
Perform agitated saline studies per protocol in accordance with the sonographer scope of practice and annual competency.
**
Document and appropriately charge all studies performed in the electronic medical record (EMR).
**
Document preliminary findings utilizing the picture archiving and communication system (PACS).
**
Provide reading cardiologist with preliminary findings in a timely manner after completion of study. STAT and inpatient studies have priority to be read first.
**
Responsible for reporting urgent and critical findings to reading cardiologist immediately.
Collaborate seamlessly with our healthcare team to provide comprehensive patient care.
Prioritize patient comfort and safety during procedures, maintaining a compassionate and reassuring bedside manner.
Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, ensuring accuracy and optimal performance.
Responsible for "on-call" duty on a rotating basis, including facility established holidays.
Share responsibility in the training and orientation of additional sonographers, students, or department staff.
Responsible for attending all annual mandatory educational programs required by position.

Education/Certification
Active certification in Adult Echocardiography as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) through ARDMS, Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) through CCI or another approved equivalent is required.
Must maintain working knowledge and educational requirements for active certification.
Experience
Graduate from an approved program preferred, but not required.
Minimum of one-year full-time clinical experience preferred, but not required.
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (cpr) Requirements
Basic Life Support (BLS) required within 30 days of hire date.
Physical Demands
This position requires frequent standing and walking.

SUMMARY:
As a Sonographer, you play an important part in high quality imaging exams needed to deliver quality care to our patients. Performs or assists in the performance of Vascular, Abdominal, OB/GYN or Neurovascular Sonography exams. RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Ultrasound Scans - Perform abdominal, vascular, OB/GYN and/or transcranial Doppler ultrasound scans; produce ultrasound images and obtain all required measurements; assist attending physicians with invasive procedures under sonographic guidance.
· Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
· Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
· Documentation - Note performance of scans in patient charts and complete preliminary reporting; phone preliminary reports in to doctor's offices or nursing floors at the request of the Radiologist.
· Room Preparation - Clean, stock and prepare room daily.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Effective June 1, 2023: Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Certificate OR Bachelor's Degree in Ultrasound required for all new hires.
· For Radiology sites/affiliates with ACR accreditation, Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification required (within 6 months of graduation from Commission on Accreditation of Allied Program (CAAHEP), or within 18 months of graduation from a non-accredited program). If hired prior to September 1, 2022, a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is required by March 1, 2023.
· For Neurovascular & Vascular, the RDMS is not required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Prior Sonographer experience preferred.

You will provide these standard echocardiographer duties to a mix of inpatient and outpatient populations using protocols at the discretion of the Medical Director of Cardiology.
You will be expected to meet standards designed to reflect behavior and performance levels expected in clinical practice for all diagnostic medical sonographers at Adirondack Health. These clinical standards set forth the principles that are common to all the specialties within the larger category of the diagnostic sonography profession. Individual specialties or clinical areas may extend or refine, but not limit, these general principles according to their specific practice requirements.
Educational Requirements/ Qualifications:
High School Graduate or Equivalent
Graduate of an accredited echocardiography program
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer by CCI preferred; or ability to obtain RDCS within 12 months of hire.
BLS certification within 3 months of hire.
1 year of Echocardiographer experience preferred.
