About the Role
We're looking for a dedicated MedicalAssistant to join our team and help us continue delivering the level of care our patients and families deserve. In this role, you'll be a vital part of our clinical team, ensuring excellent service, collaboration, and patient outcomes in a fast-paced healthcare environment. You will provide a range of clinical and administrative services to support clinical staff to ensure timely and effective care is delivered to all patients. All care is provided in compliance with and according to departmental policy, which includes participating in medical and social history collection to assist in the assessment of patient need, and communicate with the healthcare team, as appropriate.
What You'll Do
* Patient Flow: Prepares exam rooms for patient care. Ensures rooms are neat, clean, and stocked.
* Rooms patients in preparation for nurse and physician. Breakdown, cleaning and set up of exam rooms to insure consistent patient flow. Assist with clinical inventory process.
* Patient Care. Rooms patients, collects vitals, chief complaint, and medical and social history. Reviews medications and documents allergies. Updates medications as instructed/approved by RN. Observes and communicates pertinent information and changes in patient's condition to the RN. Assists clinical staff in completing examinations and procedures as directed.
* Office Clerical Support: Provides clerical support including scheduling, pre-authorization for exams and diagnostic testing, pre-authorization for referrals and medication pre-authorization. Conducts PAM assessments for all Medicaid patients and enters assessments into data system.
* Lab Support: Follows through with patient lab order to include: phlebotomy, point of care testing and EKG, and specimen collection. Performs designated waive testing as applicable (Strep, pregnancy, urine, protein).
* Medical Records: Helps maintain accurate medical records by appropriately filing reports within Medent (EMR) and ensuring completeness of documents prior to filing chart.
* Patient Communication: Conducts patient call backs on normal test results. Communicates with patients regarding medication changes. Keeps patients informed of future appointments and testing.
* Facilitates coordination for patient access to resources via the patient navigator (as applicable).
Additional Responsibilities:
* MedicalAssistant II is designated to MedicalAssistant I that has achieved a specialty competency above required duties that are beneficial to the practice(s). Examples include Coumadin clinic, electronic medical records extraction and chart preparation that assists with onboarding new clinical and clerical staff with the (oncology) or (practice) patient population specific documentation requirements, podiatry radiology, medication reconciliation, etc.

Operations Management:
1. Prepares and coordinates daily schedules for providers including scheduling patient appointments (in accordance with established protocols), meetings, onsite/educations programs for client companies, pharmaceutical company representatives, etc. Distributes scheduled information to physician, staff, and outside agencies requiring that information (i.e. hospitals and answering service).
2. Responds to all incoming telephone calls courteously and efficiently. Routes all medically related calls to a nurse or doctor for appropriate action. Screens new patients to ascertain what physician it would be appropriate for them to see.
3. Prepares the patient's chart for provider by assembling and completing paperwork relevant to the specific type of office visit to be conducted either in electronic medical record format or paper chart.
4. Obtains all information necessary for the office visit from the referring provider or patient and relays that information to the appropriate provider. Sends out medical record release forms and medical history questionnaire to patients scheduled for extensive new visits.
5. Orders supplies as necessary.
6. Sorts and distributes mail daily as needed.
7. Copies/scans any insurance information into the computer for proper billing, accepts co-payments/payments and maintains accurate records.
Billing:
1.Verifies patient information, address, insurance, etc.
2.Prepares encounter forms for all office visits, consults, surgeries, etc., including appropriate ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding.
Patient Support:
1. Prepares patients for examination/surgery; blood pressures, venipunctures, etc.
2. Prepares surgical instruments; cleans and sends for sterilization according to protocol; set-up of surgical trays and other associated instruments.
3. Assists physician during examinations, surgical procedures and suture removal as necessary.
4. Under the direction of provider does prescription renewals and ancillary testing (i.e. EKG and spirometry).

6. Maintains system to ensure timely receipt of all consultation reports and referred testing results. Follow-up associated problems, missing information, etc.
7. Obtains pre-certification clearances required for medical testing and submits necessary paperwork. Follow-up on requests when pre-certification is not received in a timely manner.
8. Telephones patient with test results and follow-ups with appropriate referral.
9. Performs waived laboratory testing in a timely manner and reports results.
10. Provides age appropriate care to neonate, infant, children, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
11. Is responsible to know the proper protocol for disposing of regulated medical waste.
Medical Documentation:
1. Transcribes physician's notes and updates patient medical records if required.
2. Is responsible to scan/file results of testing, consults or any other medical record according to office protocol.

$40,495.10 - $52,643.64The MedicalAssistant (MA) performs assigned tasks of direct and indirect care in the ambulatory setting to meet the care needs of patients under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP). The MedicalAssistant participates as a member of the health care team and accepts appropriate delegation from the RN, LPN or LIP in meeting needs of the patient/family. The MedicalAssistant performs assigned tasks in accordance with the patient care plan, policies and procedures of the organization and principles of patient-centered care. The MedicalAssistant carries out designated activities that are within those functions limited by NYS law to unlicensed health care personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Documents information into patient record in an accurate and timely manner
Obtains prior authorizations from insurance companies
Generates medical renewals under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider
Assists LPN's with obtaining information for pump/sensor/meter approvals
Assists in clinical coverage as needed
Adheres to AMC's regulatory compliance issues
Other responsibilities as assigned by manager
Qualifications
High School Diploma/G.E.D. - required
1-3 years Medicaloffice experience - preferred
Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work within a team as well as individually
Certified MedicalAssistant with accreditation by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) Upon Hire - required
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
