Aron Streit company history timeline
In 1916, Aron opened his first matzo factory.
In 1925, with the growing number of Jewish immigrants congregating in the Lower East Side, Streit, along with his two sons, Jack and Irving, moved his business to nearby 150 Rivington Street.
Although Aron died in 1937, his great-great-grandchildren carry on the family tradition, lighting Shabbos candles and teaching the fifth generation how to maintain Jewish values in America.
Manischewitz, which considers itself the world’s largest matzo baker, was also a family business until 1990 but is now owned by an arm of the private equity firm Bain Capital and owns or manufactures two other leading brands, Goodman’s and Horowitz Margareten.
In 2015, after nearly 100 years making matzo on Manhattan’s Lower East side, Streit’s moved to a new and modern bakery in New York.
Soon thereafter they bought the adjacent buildings, where the company operated for 90 years, before moving in 2015.
