SUMMARY:
Responsible for the presentation of consignment items which includes sorting, heavy lifting, cleaning, and labeling. This position will help unpack, tag, and enter property information into database and assist with client pickups after auctions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Pre-auction tasks
    • Enter item information into the computer system accurately
    • Ensure all items are imaged on time
    • Prepare (sort, clean, and label) items for auction
    • Must be comfortable with day to day heavy lifting of antique furniture
  • Post-auction tasks
    • Prepare orders for shipping in compliance with established procedures
    • Ship orders immediately after auctions.
    • Process and forward items remaining onsite until payments are received
  • Inform supervisors of any discrepancies or issues
  • Other duties may be assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
  • 1+ years of related experience, preferred
  • Interest in Fine and Decorative Arts
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications, specifically Outlook and Excel
  • Ability to multitask and pay great attention to detail
  • Individuals must be comfortable lifting to 50 pounds.

Job Summary

Community Art Assistants support the Community Art and Engagement Coordinator, Katrina Davis-Salazar. They are mentors to youth attending the workshops, creative contributors, and active assistants before, during, and after all workshops. There are a total of eight "Artist to Artist" Community Engagement Workshops (four youth workshops and four adult workshops) throughout the school year. In addition to helping facilitate community engagement, this position also offers unique work opportunities, arts enrichment, and community engagement experience to the student worker. In kind, as CLC students, you offer another layer of community connection to our programs. At our adult "Artist to Artist" events, student workers will serve as assistants to the coordinator and guest artists. Student workers will help plan "E.A.S.E." themes, techniques, and projects, serving as mentors, visiting artists, and assistants to the coordinator in all aspects. Peer mentors must uphold CLC values of excellence, integrity, unity, purpose, compassion, and inclusion.

Required Qualification

+ Possess art skills. It is preferred that applicants have taken at least one CLC art class or can demonstrate a similar background/education. Art or Digital Media and Design major preferred, but not necessary. A student with an interest in and dedication to equity & inclusion AND community arts engagement is preferred.

+ Must be kind, positive, have good eye-contact (or similar skill such as head-nodding or smiling), be able to answer basic questions, and provide a welcoming environment to diverse Waukegan youth and artists, CLC students and employees, and community members.

+ Must be a multi-tasker, problem-solver, self-starter, and have good organizational skills.

+ Must be reasonably flexible with their schedules throughout the week. Be able to attend eight weekday (usually on Wednesday or Thursday, but this may vary) evening workshops and prioritize these events in their schedules as they are added to the calendar. Work schedule may be sporadic.

+ Must be able to work with program leader before, during, and after workshops, as well as independently on small projects.

+ Assist in designing projects and coming up with themes, creative ideas, and solutions.

+ Be able to move medium-weight boxes and label, sort, and organize supplies.

+ Record content at workshops for social media.

+ Give positive feedback, encouragement, and basic art assistance to workshop participants.

+ Demonstrate art projects to a group of up to 24 students at workshops.

+ Assist in curating and hanging artwork for culminating exhibits.

2.0 GPA and enrollment in at least 6 credit hours in the fall is required.

Federal Work Study eligibility is required.
