Job Description: Staff Engineer - Finance Data Specialist GEICO is seeking Finance Data specialists to support the build out of a Finance Data Warehouse/Lake by partnering with both Finance and Technology teams to redesign the way they use their technologies in managing GEICO's business. This individual must have strong functional and technical Finance Systems background to partner with the Business ensuring effective discussions to drive the capture, transformation, and utilization of Finance data to meet Business goals. The Staff Engineer, Finance Data Specialist will report to the Senior Manager of Finance Data & Analytics and will provide solutions on how to build out, maintain, and support a Finance Data repository to support FP&A processing and analytics while also supporting the larger Finance organization's need for Finance data. The Finance Data Specialist will work with multiple Finance and Technology leaders to support the build out the company's Finance Data Warehouse/Lake to provide a central repository for all Financial related transactions so it can be a reconciled source of truth for processing and the source for Revenue and Expense analytics. This role is also accountable to support the delivery of technology solutions that will support FP&A Planning/Budgeting, financial reporting, Revenue/Expense Analytics, and the build out of the Finance Data Warehouse to become a reconciled source to allow the GL to become a “thin” ledger. The ideal candidate has deep Finance Systems experience across multiple companies, a background in ERP and Finance Data Warehouses from both technical and functional aspects and has supported the deployment of best practices leveraging their broad knowledge of various ERPs (e.g. Oracle; Workday; SAP or PeopleSoft). Prior Financial Systems experience is needed to be considered. Our team enables reliable, governed, and scalable data flows that support analytics, data science, and external reporting across the company. The Data Ingestion & Modeling team focuses specifically on transforming raw data into robust, trusted data warehouse models that serve as the single source of truth for downstream use. To be successful in this role, you'll need: 12+ years of experience as a data engineer or analytics engineer, with deep experience designing and building data warehouse models. Expertise in modern ELT pipelines, data modeling (especially dimensional models), and warehouse technologies like Snowflake, Databricks, or BigQuery. Strong proficiency in SQL and at least one programming language (e.g., Python or Scala). Experience working with orchestration tools such as Airflow or DBT to manage pipeline workflows. A strong sense of data governance, data quality, and testing best practices. A collaborative mindset with the ability to influence and guide peers through technical leadership, not management. Experience in healthcare or other regulated data environments is a plus, but not required. What You'll Do: Design and build ELT/ETL processes and connectors (using Python, DBT, and Flink), distributing this work across other engineers Mentor other engineers and review their work for quality, consistency, and adherence to best practices Assist in the creation of Dimensions & Facts in a starflake schema and create DBT DAG to populate the tables Create Proof of Concept designs to explore new technology in data processing, analytics, and AI areas Work closely with other engineers, designers and Engineering Leadership to rapidly build, iterate, test and deploy new features and products and maintain a high-quality robust codebase What We're Looking For: As we evaluate candidates across all roles, we look for folks who have a strong sense of ownership, great communication and collaboration skills, and a dedication to continuous improvement. 5+ years of professional (or comparable) data engineering experience Experience with SQL,Python, DBT, Kafka, Gitlab Experience with relational databases Deep understanding of event streams and stream processing A desire to follow exceptional software engineering processes Comfort with the Unix/Linux command line Experience that will Impress the Heck Out of Us: Experience with Snowflake, Redshift, or BigQuery, programming experience in Python Experience creating data visualizations using Javascript Github profile or public code portfolio Advanced STEM degree Benefits & Perks: Inclusive and healthy environments are crafted intentionally.
