Artist Statistics in the US

The average employee age for artists is 41 years. The artist workforce reached a whopping 11,970 in 2020!

Among artists, we discovered that 51.8% of them are women, while 43.4% are men. The most common race/ethnicity among artists is White, which makes up 73.2% of all artists. Comparatively, there are 11.7% of the Hispanic or Latino ethnicity and 8.4% of the Asian ethnicity. Artists are also more likely to work at private companies in comparison to public companies. Taking it a step further, artists are more likely to find a job in the technology industry.

From where do we know all information about artist demographics? We analyzed 32,412 artists resumes to find out what the average demographics are for the job position. Just to be clear, by demographics we mean the study of population-based factors like age, race, and sex. On top of scouring through resumes, we also took note of job proposals from employers and Census Bureau data. And guess what? We found some pretty interesting information.

Artist Ethnic Breakdown

The most common ethnicity among artists is White, which makes up 73.2% of all artists. Comparatively, there are 11.7% of the Hispanic or Latino ethnicity and 8.4% of the Asian ethnicity.

We assessed our data to determine the typical level of education for artists. The most common degree for artists is bachelor's degree. In fact, 49% of artists earn that degree. A close second is high school diploma with 17% and rounding it off is associate degree with 12%.
