Artnet company history timeline

1989

The company was founded as Centrox Corporation in 1989 by Pierre Sernet, a French collector who developed database software which allowed images of artworks to be associated with market prices.

1990

Art dealer and entrepreneur Hans Neuendorf founded artnet in 1990, bringing his knowledge and expertise to the art world at large.

1998

1998: artnet.com AG was established in Frankfurt under the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, and Artnet Worldwide Corporation was merged into the company as a wholly owned subsidiary.

Company Background artnet AG was incorporated under the laws of Germany in 1998.

2004

2004: Because of the growing demand for artnet services in Europe, artnet launched the German language website and magazine and moved offices to Berlin from Frankfurt.

2007

2007: Since February 1, 2007, artnet AG has been listed in the Prime Standard segment of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange, providing high levels of transparency.

2009

2009: artnet launched the new Price Database Decorative Art.

2010

2010: artnet launched a free iPhone App, new platform for artnet Auctions, artnet Price Database, artnet Artists A–Z, and artnet Magazine.

2011

2011: The beta version of artnet Analytics Reports was launched in December 2011. artnet also updated the Market Alert product with new subscription types and the addition of auction results.

2012

Jacob Pabst assumed the role of CEO in July 2012.

In 2012, artnet launched a 24-hour global art newswire: artnet News.

2013

2013: artnet Insights was launched, a new resource center that educates users about how to value, buy, and sell art.
