Schedule: 7-On/7-Off A Week 8:30 PM - 7:00 AM Training Schedule: Monday - Friday (40 hours/week) 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Department: UH Clinical Lab - 431 Primary Purpose: This position provides technical and non-technical support within the laboratory areas qualified. Functions include an expansive mastery of technical material and knowledge of high complexity tasks. Must be able to work flexible hours and on call may be required.
This position is not qualified for delegation of supervisory duties for NY testing areas.

Essential Functions:
General:
Performs all representative activities and accountabilities as defined by the Medical Laboratory Scientist Job Description/Primary Purpose.
Performs assigned testing and verification duties as scheduled.
Evaluates new procedures and updates existing procedures.
Maintains continual compliance necessary to meet the standards of regulatory agencies.
Performs assessment of peers performing testing. Note: This position does not qualify to perform direct observations for NY testing.
Functions in a designated leadership role with assigned responsibilities when supervisor, lead, or other staff member with a leadership role is not available and/or on site.
Other duties as assigned.
Specialized in one or more of the following categories
Workflow Coordinator:
Evaluates the daily shift workflow of a Technical section(s). Reports findings to supervisor.
Provides the technical expertise in the use, calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of all laboratory instruments, equipment, reagents, and testing.
Provides input for the scheduling and/or performance of instrument maintenance.
Completes the review of daily QC for trends, shifts, or other problems. Helps with the troubleshooting and resolution of QC problems.
Provides verbal communication and/or consultation to clients/physicians or related questions or assigns the problems.
Provides detailed knowledge of specimen collection, handling, transport, processing, analysis, and clinical interpretation to clients/physicians.
Acts as a secondary contact and resource for couriers, specimen receiving, client services, account representatives, product management, referral testing, and evening/night managers.
Provides problem resolution for sample handling, split samples, sample retrieval, lost samples, and request for samples.
Enforces all safety guidelines and policies including evacuation procedures.
Reviews the DAR and pending sample reports.
Communicates all shift issues to the supervisor, manager, and medical directors as required.
Physical and Other Requirements:
Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist.
Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction.
Mobility: The person in this position needs to occasionally move between work sites and inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
Communicate: Effectively communicate with others.
PPE: Biohazard laboratory environment that requires use of personal protective equipment in accordance with CDC and OSHA regulations and company/departmental policies.
ARUP Policies and Procedures: To conduct self in compliance with all ARUP Policies and Procedures.
Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Fine Motor Control: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand as in handling.
Vision: Having close, far, and peripheral visual acuity to perform a variety of tasks such as make general observations of depth and distance.

Compensation and Benefits
The compensation range for this position is $17per hour - $17per hour. This represents a good faith minimum and maximum range for the role at the time of posting by Carle Health. The Medical Technologist / Medical Lab Scientist (MT/MLS) / Medical Lab Technologist (MLT) is responsible for performing laboratory tests and procedures that assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Education Qualifications:
MLT candidates
Required: Associate degree from a Medical Laboratory Technician program from an accredited institution, including courses in chemistry and biology; or Associate degree of at least 60 semester hours from an accredited institution, including chemistry and biology, plus 12-month structured curriculum in medical laboratory techniques (which may have been part of collegiate course); or Associate degree or equivalent from an accredited institution, including courses in chemistry and biology plus graduation from a military medical laboratory training program of not less than 12 months duration.
MT/MLS candidates
Required: Baccalaureate degree in chemical, physical, biological, clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution; completed and approved ASCP (or equivalent) certification pathway; or have satisfied CLIA requirements for HEW certification. Have completed one year in an accredited laboratory training program.
Certification Qualifications:
MLT Candidates
Required: Eligibility as a Medical Laboratory Technologist, MLT (ASCP), MLT (AMT), HEW, or CLS (NCA) or equivalent required for individuals having completed certification requirement in 2004 or later.
Recommended: Registry within 12 months of completion of school/training or equivalent education documentation per CLIA standards

The Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for performing moderate complexity clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the laboratory and participates in the responsibilities for quality control and quality assurance in accordance with CLIA regulatory requirements and standards. Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is responsible for specimen collection and processing, test performance and for reporting test results.
Essential Job Functions
This position is eligible for a $2500.00 sign on incentive, relocation, and tuition loan reimbursement.

* Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
* Follows the laboratory's established corrective action policies and procedures whenever test systems are not within the laboratory's established acceptable levels of performance.
* Must be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and either must correct the problems or immediately notify the technical consultant, clinical consultant or Director.
* Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specifications.
* Performs other duties as assigned or needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.
