1847

In 1847, at 7pm on Saturday 5 June the Auckland Savings Bank, New Zealand's first savings bank, opened on Queen Street.

1925

1925 — Thomas Anson Waddoups is appointed district manager of the first American Building & Loan Co office in Honolulu.

1953

The coat of arms for the 642d DASB with revised symbolism is derived from the 742d Ordnance Battalion, in a letter by the Quartermaster General dated 22, October 1953.

1954

Three years later, this panel was expanded and officially designated the Army Science Advisory Panel (ASAP), with its first formal meeting held on November 16, 1954.

1955

1955-58 — American Savings & Loan Association increases account holders to 21,640 with offices on O‘ahu and Hawai‘i Island.

1968

1968 — American Savings & Loan Association branch and corporate offices open in the newly constructed Financial Plaza of the Pacific at 915 Fort Street.

1974

“Biomechanics is the study of the structure and function of biological systems by means of the methods of mechanics.” (Herbet Hatze, 1974)

1977

The Army Science Board was created in 1977 to replace the ASAP and continues in that function today.

1987

1987 — American Savings & Loan Association announces the formation of a separate subsidiary to conduct its Hawai‘i operations.

1990

1990 — American Savings Bank acquires First Nationwide Bank.

1997

1997 — American Savings Bank acquires Bank of America's Hawai‘i Operations in 1997, transforming it into Hawai‘i's third-largest financial institution with a deposit base of $600,000,000.

2000

The numerical designation of 642d originated on 1 September 2000 with the creation of the 642d Divisional Aviation Support Battalion in the New York Army National Guard from new and existing units, with Headquarters at Brooklyn, under the command of LTC Thomas Bosco.

2001

On the evening of September 12, 2001, the Battalion’s tactical vehicle convoy was the only traffic to cross the Brooklyn Bridge, headed for the remains of the World Trade center.

2002

2002 — American Savings Bank unveils a new corporate identity, kalo, or taro leaf.

2004

On 9 November, 2004 under the command of LTC Glenn Marchi, the unit deployed to Camp Buehring, Kuwait pending movement into Iraq.

On 4 December 2004, elements of the Battalion deployed into Iraq.

2005

After returning from deployment to Iraq in late 2005, the Battalion’s colors moved to its new headquarters at the Patriot Way armory in Rochester.

2006

On 5 August 2006 the 1/142 Aviation Regiment and the 642d Divisional Aviation Support battalion were consolidated and re-designated as the 642d Aviation Support battalion.

2008

LTC Scott Norcutt assumed command from LTC Stryker in September 2008.

2010

2010 — President and Chief Executive Officer Richard Wacker joins the ASB ‘ohana.

2011

In November 2011, LTC Jack James assumed command from LTC Norcutt.

2013

642d ASB Soldiers flew missions throughout the region and Soldiers from the Battalion remained on state active duty as late as February 2013.

2015

2015 — ASB celebrates 90 years of serving island residents and businesses and unveils plans for the construction of a new corporate campus in Chinatown.

2019

2019 — ASB unveils new campus - the first new office building in downtown Honolulu in nearly 25 years.

2021

2021 — Ann Teranishi is appointed President and Chief Executive Officer.
