Asbury Communities company history timeline

1994

In 1994, Asbury Communities selected a 42-acre tract of land on the banks of the Patuxent River in Calvert County to make the dream of creating Southern Maryland’s first continuing care retirement community a reality.

1996

On September 3, 1996, the first residents moved into the cottages, and apartment move-ins began two weeks later.

1998

In 1998, the community laid the groundwork for years of expansion, purchasing an additional 100 acres of land (formerly the Sheely Farm) across the road from the existing campus to create the West Campus.

2000

Bethany Village began taking reservations for West Apartments in late 2000.

2001

The Rosborough Cultural Arts and Wellness Center opened in 2001, offering a theater, a Wellness Center and pool, and other amenities designed to enhance residents’ physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, vocational and social well-being.

2004

The community grew steadily through the decade, opening the West Apartments, MapleWood Assisted Living and The Oaks Skilled Nursing during 2004.

2008

The latest round of expansion was concluded in 2008, with the opening of the West Cottages and Estate Homes.

2011

In 2011, Asbury at Home – now operating as Asbury Home Services – was established to provide home care services to residents and those in the neighboring community.

2017

In 2017 J.D. became President of the Homewood Foundation, part of Homewood Retirement Services.

2018

In 2018, Springhill was proud to be among 100 senior living communities nationwide recognized for having created an exemplary culture of resident engagement by Holleran Research and Consulting, an industry benchmarking firm.

2020

In February 2020, Doug Leidig spoke with the hosts of Mavericks of Senior Living after presenting at the Senior Living Transformation Summit in Boston where he shared how Asbury Communities is transforming our business through metrics and data.
