Founded in 1943, the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (ASCD) is an international, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that represents 160,000 educators from more than 135 countries and 66 affiliates.
Founded in 1947, Texas Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development (Texas ASCD) is a non-profit organization committed to improving teaching and learning for the success of all learners.
The merger adopted by the combined membership became effective April 1, 1971 and remained as such for a period of nine years.

On February 12, 2007, the Georgia Association of Curriculum and Instructional Supervisors (GACIS) incorporated as a Domestic Non-Profit Section 501(c) (6) Corporation.
On December 22, 2016, the incorporation was changed to a Section 501(c) (3) Non-profit Corporation.
