Serves as a member of the surgical team working with surgeons, anesthesia providers, RNs and other surgical personnel in delivering patientcare and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery in accordance with Association of Operating Room Nurses (AORN) and AST Standards of Practice.

Continuously stand/walk or lift/handle/carry material or equipment of moderate weight (20 to 50 lbs). Examples: Nurses, LPNs, and physical therapists.
Job Duties and Performance Standards
Functions as a Surgical Technician in 5 of the 6 specialties demonstrating responsibilities that include assisting in direct patientcare in the operating room.
Demonstrates appropriate aseptic technique, i.e. scrub, gown and glove, draping, counting and set up according to department policy
Selects and prepares the appropriate supplies and equipment for the surgical cases.
Operates all surgical equipment
Organizes instrumentation and the sterile field.
Anticipates needs of the surgeon, passes appropriate instruments, assists in exposure of the surgical field.
Performs all surgical counts consistently, including the “safety count”.
Performs wound closure (Subcutaneous and Skin) under the direct supervision of the surgeon.
Participates in general operating room activities to create a highly effective team.
Participates in PI activities, continuing education, planning and orientation of new personnel, and emergency preparedness.
Demonstrates an awareness of the needs of the department and the assigned rooms and or tasks.

The Surgical Technologist (ST) is responsible for maintaining a sterile field and instrumentation for all surgical procedures. They prepare the operating room and supplies for each surgical case in a neat and efficient manner. The ST communicates with all other members of the Perioperative team to provide the highest standard of care according to AORN standards for patients in the intraoperative period. The ST works collaboratively with co-workers and is involved in stocking and ordering supplies for the department while also providing additional supportive patientcare as directed by others.
Responsibilities
Maintain sterile field and instrumentation for surgical procedures.
Prepare operating room and supplies for surgeries efficiently.
Communicate effectively with the Perioperative team.
Collaborate with co-workers on supply management.
Provide supportive patientcare as needed.
Required Experience / Certifications / Licensure
Unrestricted license to practice as a Surgical Technologist in the State of Colorado, or ability to obtain prior to start date.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; may be obtained upon hire.
2 years of recent O.R. experience preferred.
Surgical Technologist certification (NCCT TS-C or NBSTSA CST) preferred.
Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
