General Summary
Come join Granite's growing Materials Group in beautiful Eastern Washington! We are looking for a few Plant Operators! The Asphalt Plant Operator is responsible for safely starting up and operating a hot mix asphalt plant to maintain production goals; perform repairs and maintenance as needed.

Essential Job Accountabilities
Safety start-up and shut down hot plant.Adjust controls to regulate flow of materials to and from conveyors, chutes, pumps, mixing and storage bins.Ensure the plant is operating at the proper temperature(s).Perform inspections of equipment, tools, site, and material.Perform general maintenance and repair on plant, machinery, and/or equipment as required. Operate mobile equipment including but no limited to front end loader, skid steer, forklift, and dozer as needed. Load mix and other aggregate materials into haul trucks and/or bins. Collaborate with Quality Control personnel to ensure that mix is produced to required specification.Complete various reports including but not limited to daily plant production and inventory reports. Communicate effectively with internal and external customers. Ensure compliance with all health, safety, environmental regulations. Perform other duties as required.

Education
High School Diploma or equivalency

Work Experience
1-3 years of experience operating a hot mix plant.Experience with ASTEC controls or other asphalt mixing systems, preferred.Experience operating mobile equipment, preferred.Basic mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic skills, preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of hot mix asphalt business and operations. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems. Ability to wear a full body harness and work at heights while tied off.Ability to work, day, swing, and night shifts (occasionally extended hours).Ability to work in constant exposure to outside elements, in all weather conditions.Ability to work in safety sensitive construction setting, including exposure to moving machinery and heavy equipment.Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced and complex environment.Ability to communicate effectively.Ability to squat, crawl, and work in awkward positions/confined spaces.Ability to obtain an MSHA Part 46 certificate as required for the job.

Physical Demands
Physical dexterity, stamina, and excellent hand-eye coordination with ability to: grasp, assemble, and lift objects, stand, sit, and walk for extended periods over uneven surfaces, squat, bend, climb ladders onto equipment or other objects, and potentially lie down.Lifting, pushing, pulling of heavy items weighing up to 80 lbs. or more.

Ability to understand and comply with MSHA rules and regulations.Comply, understand, and support corporate safety initiatives to ensure a safe work environment.Ability and willingness to abide by Granite's Code of Conduct daily.

General Description . A Front End Loader is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Loader. This position operates loaders equipped with front mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop which is used to transport aggregate or other materials, feed hopers or chutes, and/or stick pile aggregates.

+ Operates straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor-type vehicle equipped with front-mounted hydraulically powered bucket or scoop to lift and transport bulk materials to and from storage or processing areas, to feed conveyors, hoppers, or chutes, and/or stockpile aggregates.
+ Starts engine, shifts gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader.

+ Moves levers to lower and tilt bucket and drives front-end loader forward to force bucket into bulk material.

+ Moves levers to raise and tilt bucket when filled, drives vehicle to work site, and moves levers to dump Material.

+ Performs routine maintenance on loader, such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning

+ Operate the equipment over rocky or uneven land safely. Drive smoothly under harsh weather conditions.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Qualification Requirements

+ General. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

+ Education and Experience. This position typically is not an entry-level job, as it requires demonstrable previous experience as a Front End Loader Operator. A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees. One (1) to Three (3) years or more of industry related experience is required for this position , with an emphasis on roads, highways, and bridges.

+ Physical Demands. The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by a Front End Loader Operator to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

+ Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.

+ Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.

+ Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment.

+ Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions.

+ The Operator must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.

+ Work Environment. The work environment characteristics described below are representative of those that a Front End Loader Operator encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

+ Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.

+ Work environment periodically exposes the employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust that is typically associated with a construction project.
