Team members must perform duties on a Brooks Construction jobsite in a safe, efficient, and proper manner to achieve a quality finished product. May perform traffic control (flagging) duties as required. May place and pick up traffic control materials (cones, barrels, etc.) as needed. Must perform other miscellaneous duties, as directed.

Qualifications may include:

  • Must be willing to work evenings, weekends, and long hours/extensive overtime (sunrise to sunset) when necessary (often with little or no notice)
  • Must have reliable transportation with the ability and willingness to travel to and from job sites up to a 70 mile radius from our office (at the employee's expense)

  • Must be able to work outdoors in all seasons and all weather conditions (including rain, snow, extreme heat or cold, water, mud, dust, etc.)

General Description.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each Key Duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Key Duties

Individuals will be expected to carry out a wide range of tasks which may include:

+ Raking Asphalt

+ Dumping trucks

+ Operating some machinery, such as tractor broom

+ Shoveling, sweeping, and using a wheelbarrow

+ Must be able to work nights and weekends when required

Education and Experience.

+ High school diploma or equivalent

+ Driver's license (preferred)

+ Must be able to understand work directions and communicate effectively with job site supervisors and fellow employees.

Physical Demands.

The following physical demands are representative of those that must be met by Paving Personnel to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

+ Constant physical effort, including standing, is required during a regular work shift of at least eight hours per day. Employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time, and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required to perform Key Duties.

+ Occasionally work with hands extended overhead sometimes in conjunction with the operation of power tools or hand tools involved in cleaning.

+ Ability to lift at least 50 pounds individually and up to 90 pounds with assistance.

+ Manual dexterity to push a wheelbarrow, use hand tools, such as, shovel, rake, pick-axe, and to form proper hand signals for dumping trucks o Frequently walk on uneven surfaces, including natural ground in varying weather conditions

+ Must be able to climb on and off heavy mobile equipment safely.

+ Maintain constant alertness to the multiple concurrent activities of the construction site, including the activities of other employees and contractors, the operation of stationary equipment, and the movement of mobile equipment

+ The ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds (e.g., moving equipment, backing alarms, or other alarms, instructions/directions from supervisor and/or spotter).

Work Environment.

Texas Materials is a locally-based construction company and building materials supplier, which is A CRH Company, the largest asphalt, ready mix and aggregates producer in North America. Texas Materials is part of CRH's growing Texas-based network of 47 locations and over 1,200 employees statewide.

The Asphalt Laborer position is responsible for performing various duties on construction and/or paving projects. The employee will generally work in utility capacity by transferring from one task to another where demands are required. The career field for "Construction Laborer" includes, but may not be limited to, the following positions: Laborer, General Laborer, and Paving Laborer.
Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

* Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies and procedures using the appropriate tools and equipment for the task.
* Properly follow all company policies and OSHA/MSHA regulations for safe working procedures and environment. Report any problems to the Foreman, Superintendent, Safety Manager, or Human Resources Manager.
* Assist construction/paving crew with various duties such as; shoveling and raking, running wheelbarrow, safely backing/dumping trucks into paver.
* Signal operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and materials with shovel.
* Follow direction of Foreman as to daily tasks and expectations for each specific project or jobsite.
* May be called upon to run small power tools such as jack hammer.
* Digs, spreads, and levels construction materials.
* Lifts, carries and holds material, tools and supplies.
* Assists in the placement, moving and dismantling of signs, barricades, cones and other traffic control devices.
* Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
* Other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education/Experience

* High school diploma or General Education Degree GED is preferred.
* Previous related experience in the construction field.

Work Requirements

* Must be 18 years in age or older.
* Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
