This is a full time custodian position at Aspire Benjamin Holt Middle School. JOB SUMMARY
The Custodian cleans and maintains the school facility to ensure a safe, secure, and comfortable environment conducive to student learning.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
* Cleans classrooms, restrooms, hallways, multipurpose room, offices, staff lounge and all interior and exterior areas of school.
* Sets up and cleans the dining area before, between, during and after breakfast and/or lunch periods.
* Responds to emergency cleanups during the day, such as clogged drains and spills.
* Performs minor routine maintenance, including replacing lights, changing filters, etc.
* Performs minor routine grounds-keeping duties, including picking up litter, weeding, mowing the lawn.
* Reports required repair work to proper parties.
* Sets up and arranges furniture for assemblies, meetings and special events.
* Maintains awareness and readiness to respond to safety/security needs of students, staff and facilities.
* Demonstrate knowledge of, and support, the Aspire Public Schools mission, vision, value statements including antiracism, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior
* Perform other related duties as required and assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Competencies:
* Knowledge of safe and efficient use of cleaning materials, chemicals, tools and equipment
* Ability to complete minor maintenance, e.g., replace light bulb, filters
* Ability and willingness to safely meet the physical requirements necessary to perform the required duties, including ability to lift, carry, push, pull and move heavy objects on a regular basis
* Ability to maintain simple records
* Ability to work independently
* Ability to interact appropriately with children of different ages in school setting respecting and understanding boundaries.
Experience required:
* 1-3 years of custodial experience preferred
Physical requirements:
* Stand, walk or bend over, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, grasp, push, and pull. Move, lift and/or carry up to 30 pounds to shoulder height
* Repetitive use of hands (i.e. fine manipulation, simple grasping, and power grasping)
* Demonstrate normal depth perception

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school
AND
Two (2) years' experience as a custodian.
* One year of experience is equal to 12 months of experience at 40 hours per week. Applicable part-time experience will be converted to the full-time equivalent for purposes of meeting the experience requirement.
* If specifically referenced (i.e. degree 'or equivalent'), related experience that is above the minimum requirement may be substituted for education on a year for year basis.
* Applicants with foreign degrees from colleges or universities outside of the United States must have their coursework evaluated by a professional association that is a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services(NACES). Position Summary

Position Specific Accountabilities
1. Perform cleaning, disinfection, and maintenance of buildings scheduled by the Facilities Management supervisory team. This includes, but is not limited to, dusting blinds, bulletin boards, drapes, doors, facility areas, fire extinguishers, fire extinguisher boxes, furniture, light fixtures, pictures, restroom fixtures, stair rails, vents, window ledges and sills; damp wipe and polish furniture; mopping, wet mopping, waxing and buffing floors including stairways, entrances, steps, and elevator cabs; polishing glass doors, glass partitions, kick plate door hardware, elevator doors, and drinking fountains; cleaning chalkboards and dry erase boards; washing windows; cleaning and sanitizing restroom fixtures, toilets, hardware, tile, mirrors, partitions, floors, etc.; replace restroom supplies and ensuring toilets are clear of debris; wash countertops; and vacuuming carpeted areas, cushioned furniture, and elevator door tracks.

3. Use the provided cleaning supplies and equipment to keep the interior of the office building looking clean, disinfected, and professional. Operate and clean various equipment, including power-cleaning equipment, such as buffers, scrubbers, and extractors.
4. Act on customer special requests for removal of debris, clean-up of spills, and similar customer needs quickly and with a professional manner. Perform specialized custodial work upon the work of the staff members and supervisor.
5. Replenish soap and paper supplies to ensure all pantries and restrooms are fully stocked with the necessary sanitization items.
6. Stock and clean supply rooms and service carts. All areas where custodial items are kept are expected to be organized and tidy. Assist in the delivery of campus custodial supplies.
7. Assist in on-the-job training of new staff on routine procedures.
8. Performs cleaning functions specific to the assigned facilities and/or based on seasonal/project requirements.
9. Conserve energy: night shift personnel should turn on only those lights in the immediate work area; turn off lights when leaving offices, classrooms, laboratories, etc., unless otherwise directed; close all windows, unless otherwise directed; shut off all faucets and report leaky and/or malfunctioning equipment to supervisor.
10. Report needs and concerns to appropriate staff, which may include submitting or recommending work orders and checking supply levels.
11. Adhere to the University's safety policies as well as Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to create a safe work environment for all LMU campus community.
12. Set up furniture or return furniture to its standard configuration after completion of work. Assist in the relocation of furniture.

Facilities Management and Planning administers custodial services; building maintenance and alterations; utilities operations (heating and cooling); landscape services; capital construction review as it pertains to future maintenance; property control and inventory; delivery services; stores operations and other support activities necessary for the benefit of administration and academic areas of the campus community. The SOU campus includes 175 acres of grounds, 140 of which are under active use and maintenance. Facilities Management maintains 21 major buildings comprising over one million square feet of building space. The department is staffed by approximately 45 full time personnel and is responsible for approximately 9% of the total campus budget. This position exists to complete the custodial responsibilities of Facilities and to provide occasional support to other Facilities operations. The custodian cleans a building either alone or in conjunction with other custodians and may perform a variety of tasks or only certain designated tasks depending on the assignment. Custodial tasks include cleaning and sanitizing restrooms and showers, maintaining trash, dusting, window cleaning, carpet and floor cleaning and maintenance, and other periodic duties associated with maintaining the overall appearance and sanitation of the academic buildings.
Physical Demands
The worker must be physically able to perform all assigned duties and operate assigned equipment. Frequent position changes including bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, ascend/descend stairs and ladders. Uses manual and power equipment to clean floors. Ability to move objects such as desks and chairs. Occasionally school activities may require earlier reporting or extension of scheduled work shift. The work is done inside a building but does involve some outside work, sometimes in inclement weather. Work involves the use of dangerous chemicals; some ladder work is required.
