About the Role:
The Chief Estimator is responsible for planning, coordinating and directing the Estimating team for various electrical construction projects. This includes administering operating budgets, staffing, work assignments, salary and performance reviews. The Chief Estimator will also support and administer all department standards and procedures as well as be responsible for the final review and approvals of estimate packages. The Chief Estimator will coordinate with the Operations Manager and Division Manager for the selection of projects to pursue.

Essential Functions
Take on leadership functions within the Estimating department
Review and evaluate requests for estimates, proposals and/or qualifications
Prepare weekly bid calendar and ensure timely completion of estimates
Review estimates and revisions for completeness and accuracy
Maintain and improve precision database
Develop and maintain cost data, including labor and equipment rates, installation methods and production rates
Develop and maintain estimating procedures and guidelines
Prepare reports as needed
Set departmental budget
Determine constructability requirements
Lead, direct, and audit the work of assigned staff; act as a mentor
Advise staff of company policy expectations
Coordinate employee performance reviews
Develop and maintain relationships with existing and new clients
May develop training requirements for the estimating staff
Regular and predictable attendance
Other duties as assigned

About You:
Qualifications
Previous experience as a Lead or Senior level Estimator
10+ years of experience within the construction industry
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field; combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of degree
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Working knowledge of the N.E.C. and local codes
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and estimating software
Team player with excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills
Ability to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, etc. plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals and other documents

This is a position for a candidate experienced as a self-perform mechanical and plumbing trades estimator on complex industrial, institutional and health care projects. Estimates on similar type projects is required.
Basic Qualifications:
Prior completion of mechanical and plumbing estimates with project size exceeding $25 million
Demonstrated experience in estimating for both, hard-bid and negotiated projects.
Demonstrated experience developing accurate estimates from schematic design documents.
Experience in leading a team, providing direction, and determining priorities to achieve a complete and final estimate.
Experience in writing subcontractor scopes, negotiating pricing and issuing subcontracts.

Role Description

The Junior Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate, timely bids for commercial HVAC and sheet metal projects. This role involves reading and interpreting plans and specifications, performing quantity take-offs, and preparing cost estimates using AutoBid Mechanical (Trimble/QuickPen) software. The position is ideal for someone with foundational sheet metal knowledge who is eager to grow into a senior estimating role.
Major Responsibilities/Activities
Review bid drawings, project manuals, and specifications to understand project scope.
Attend project job walks and site visits as needed.
Prepare quantity take-offs for sheet metal systems using AutoBid Mechanical (Trimble/QuickPen).
Set up material specifications, system assemblies, and labor factors in the estimating software.
Assist in developing conceptual budgets from Basis of Design (BOD) or preliminary documents.

In this role, you will review plans, do material takeoffs, research pricing for materials and equipment, and track actual job costs against what is estimated. The Role:
The Senior Estimator is responsible for the coordination of all project budgeting, including preparing quantity surveys, obtaining subcontractor pricing, reviewing historical cost data and ensuring compliance with scope of work, as well as offering construction feasibility and value engineering counsel. Turn Over Meetings:
Assist the Chief Estimator in compiling the Turn Over Meeting package

Quality Control of Departments Bids and Estimates:
Prepare thorough scope of work spreadsheets. Always try to prepare a thorough control estimate for every trade you are responsible for. Meet deadlines and allow time for review of your work with the Senior or Chief Estimator
Bid Day Activities:
Develop a "Plug" number for your trade using the most up to date information available the night before the bid
Complete the scope of work/pricing spread sheets ASAP
Follow up with subcontractors for any missing information
Review all pricing and subcontractor information with the Senior and Chief Estimator
Post Bid Activities:
Attend any review meetings with the Senior or Lead Estimator. If called to the table or awarded the bid, review the estimate and discuss strategy with the team for any holes, value management, or potential profit pockets

Responsibilities:
Responsible for developing cost estimates and preparing and/or coordinating the preparation of estimates on projects as required by client's documents.
Review construction documents and understand scope of work to bid.
Execute take-offs of construction documents.
Obtain pricing for materials.
Obtain bids from subcontractors.
Properly evaluate and scope materials, vendors, and subcontractors for compliance with bidding documents.
Prepare cost analysis by recapitulating material, labor, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
Maintain documents and plans updated and organized.
Qualifications:
5+ years of plumbing estimating experience in commercial work.
Strong understanding of codes.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret drawings - architectural, structural, and mechanical plans; familiarity with a variety of plumbing systems and terminology.
Ability to fill in gaps and complete/layout systems.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Self-motivated with a sense of urgency in completing assignments.

Kitchell is seeking a Project Estimator to plan, organize, and implement accurate estimating functions for assigned projects. This role will communicate and work within estimating staff to ensure accurate estimates are professionally prepared in appropriate formats and in a timely manner and is critical in delivering accurate cost projections, supporting business development, and ensuring project success from concept through GMP.
Duties & Responsibilities
Review design documents to understand scope and clarify ambiguities with internal team, design team or Owner.
Prepare take-off for the following trades: Program Area, Interiors.
Enter line items in estimating software and price the following trades: Interiors, Enclosure Systems, Structural Systems, and Sitework.
Understand the systems and historical costs for interior trades
Develop sub lists and issue project documents to the subcontractor community.
Contact subcontractors for budget pricing and to clarify/understand various scopes of work.
Collaborate with other individuals in the organization to obtain support and commitment to the estimate.
Develop bid posting scopes and review bids to ensure all assigned trades have a complete scope on competitive and negotiated projects.
Distribute project documents and relevant project information to the project team.
Track responsibilities of team preparing the estimate.
Close-out bids on Smartbid.
Review all estimates and bids with Sr. Estimator and/or Estimating Manager.
Establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with internal and external clients.
Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience
2-7 years of applicable experience
Preferred:
Associates or Bachelor's degree in Construction Management or related field
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
Experience in healthcare, higher education and commercial markets:
Experience with the CMAR delivery method.
