ASSEMBLY TECHNICIANS needed at The Large Power Systems Division located in Lafayette, IN.
In this role you will assemble components and perform adjustments on both diesel and natural gas engines. You could also perform assembly work in sub-assembly areas directly associated with prime product engine assembly. In addition, assembly technicians prepare engines for testing, painting and shipping of prime product.
Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
* Assembly of large diesel and natural gas engines
* Work includes the use of

* Manipulating engine components during the assembly process.

Basic Qualifications: Applicant must meet ONE of the following criteria:
* Two years of professional job-related experience in auto/diesel/farm experience- OR
* Two years of construction, maintenance and repair- OR
* 2 months of experience through the Lafayette Large Engine facility staffing agency- OR
* 6 months Caterpillar Logistics Assembly experience- OR
* Two years manufacturing experience- OR
* Technical degree in diesel engine, automotive, electrical, electronics, or agricultural/construction equipment technology
Additional Basic Qualifications:
* Strong electrical and mechanical background.

+ Take out stay bolts from the ring on the root of the blade.
+ Insert plugs into bushings around the root to avoid dust in the bushing.
+ Two individuals place donut inside the blade utilizing sika.

Job Description
Performs difficult and final electro/mechanical assembly of complex separate and/or multi-units coupled on a final base for a wide variety of products. Job Description
Performs difficult and final electro/mechanical assembly of complex separate and/or multi-units coupled on a final base for a wide variety of products. Works from engineering drawings or specifications. Procedures and methods are usually prescribed but from time to time may be required to plan assembly procedure. Requires adjusting, fitting, and aligning to close tolerances to meet inspection standards. Ten thousand (10,000) hours experience required to acquire necessary skills and techniques, knowledge of designs, materials and equipment, methods and procedures utilized. Performs other duties as designated by supervisor in the same salary grade or below. This position is deemed to require special skills and experience which cannot be fulfilled by persons not possessing such skill or experience.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Vocational or high school graduate plus a formal training program or equivalent on-the-job training required to obtain sufficient knowledge and/or certifications with regard to of electrical and related mechanical principles, assembly applications and sequences, repair methods and techniques, troubleshooting and fit-up procedures.
Employee must complete six thousand (6,000) hours worked as an Assembler "B". The six thousand (6,000) hours requirement may be waived by the Company if the employee can satisfy all other criteria.
* Employee must demonstrate the ability to satisfactorily perform all functions in the Assembler "A" classification to include the following:
* Dial indicator usage without a fixture/jig.
* Bearing installation (oil and grease).
* Assemble wide range of frame sizes including DC.
* Generators and motor generator sets.
* Ability to read and interpret drawings and specification.
* Capable of using bearing puller/removal tools.
* Demonstrate ability to safely rig and lift large/irregular parts, using multiple rigging and lifting simultaneously while building units.
* Able to interpret and work from electrical and mechanical engineering drawings and specifications.
* Easily identify various hardware types/markings.
* Familiarity and ability to use basic hand tools for electrical measurement and test equipment.
* Proficient at making "certified/KATO certified" heavy gauge and small gauge crimps.
* Familiar with and can demonstrate ability to work with various pluming joints & tools (parker hose/crimp tool, pipe cutting/threading, etc.)

WHAT YOU WILL DO
Performs all installations and/or assemblies within a specified work area on the production line.
Prepares work to be accomplished by reviewing assembly instructions, blueprint specifications, parts lists, gathering parts, subassemblies, tools and materials.
Ensures quality and consistency in installations and/or assemblies within a specified work area.
Be able to work from blueprints, process sheets, and/or written instructions, then build to those specifications while utilizing measurement tools and basic math skills.
Have working knowledge of hand and air tools. Employee is regularly exposed to vibration, and occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
Regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Be able to bend, stoop, and reach. Be able to climb up and down, as well as work using a ladder. Employee will go extended periods of time standing and performing repetitive tasks.
