The Lyons Lab is recruiting a detail-oriented Aquatic Transgenic Production Technician to support high-volume developmental biology and marine genomics workflows. The role involves hands-on care of marine invertebrates, embryo production, and microinjection pipelines that generate transgenic lines for studies on evolution, development, and environmental effects on neural systems. What You'll Do Aquatic Systems and Invertebrate Husbandry • Oversee daily operations of specialized Iwaki recirculating seawater systems • Maintain tanks, filtration units, plumbing, and life-support hardware • Feed and care for adult marine invertebrates • Monitor water chemistry and adjust pH, salinity, and nitrogen cycle parameters • Perform minor equipment repairs or construct simple system components Embryo Production and Microinjection • Collect embryos daily from breeding colonies • Perform high-volume embryo microinjections with precision • Rear embryos through metamorphosis and maintain stable genetic lines • Track development from embryos to juveniles and adults Molecular Reagent Preparation • Grow and purify bacterial cultures for plasmid production • Prepare plasmids, CRISPR components, and transposases • Complete routine molecular biology tasks, including buffer prep and PCR sample prep Lab Organization and Operations • Maintain detailed logs of animal lines, system maintenance, and breeding records • Manage ordering, shipping, and supply organization • Support lab upkeep, safety compliance, and waste management What You Bring Required • Experience with aquatic systems and water chemistry • Experience caring for adult aquatic organisms • Experience performing embryo microinjection in any species • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work regularly with seawater • Basic molecular biology skills • Strong observation, documentation, and organizational skills • Professional communication and teamwork abilities Preferred • Bachelor's degree in a biological science or equivalent experience • Familiarity with sequence-viewing or basic bioinformatics tools • Experience with IHC, HCR, or confocal microscopy Work Environment This role involves hands-on work with seawater systems, daily care of live marine organisms, and periods of standing, sitting, and moderate lifting. Typical Responsibilities: May include (but are not limited to) the following actions: Provide DRS support in the development and updating of Propulsion, Power and Diesel Engines Systems technical and ILS documentation.
