What is an assistant dean of students and how to become one

The primary function of an Assistant Dean of Students is to serve in the planning, coordinating, and administration of school activities and programs. They conduct student extracurricular programs and discipline students as needed. You will act under the direction of the Dean of Students or the Principal.

You will perform a variety of administrative duties to assist the Dean in managing the school. You will also work with students, parents, and teachers to help meet the needs of struggling students. You will supervise students on campus before and after school and monitor students during lunch. It is your job to instruct students in appropriate behavior. You will be called on to prepare letters, call parents, and attend meetings and curricular activities as needed. You will provide leadership for other members of the staff. You will need high organization skills, computer skills, and interpersonal skills in this role.

To become an Assistant Dean of Students, you will need a minimum of a bachelor's degree in education. Most Assistant Dean of Students has a master's degree in education, counseling, or social work. You will also need experience as a teacher, residence director, or school counselor. You can make an average of $22.54 an hour or $46,898 a year, but you can make up to $90,000 a year, depending on where you are placed.
