A familiarity and experience with using large datasets for correlation spectroscopies would be an asset. The successful candidate will join a collaborative research group with diverse expertise in atomic physics, laser physics, chemical dynamics, and computational science in a vibrant national laboratory setting anchored by the Advanced Photon Source, Argonne Leadership Computing Facility and Center for Nanoscale Materials. The group is also active at external light sources including the LCLS and EuXFEL.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to collaborate both internally and externally with other experimentalists and theoreticians to advance their research program. The applicant is expected to hold a Ph.D. with knowledge and expertise in chemistry or physics and is expected to possess excellent oral and written communication skills. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the planning, sourcing, and development of new initiatives and ongoing research activities.
**Position Requirements**
+ Strong motivation toward creative basic research. Specific expertise in one or more of the following: ultrafast x-ray spectroscopy, x-ray scattering, photoelectron spectroscopy, ultrafast UV/visible laser spectroscopies, synchrotron or x-ray free-electron laser research
+ Demonstrated technical expertise to design, operate and maintain laser and x-ray instrumentation
+ Good oral and written communication skills as defined by oral presentations at scientific meetings and publications in peer-review, archival, and scientific journals
+ Considerable experience and general knowledge concerning x-ray interactions with matter and electronic structure
+ Experience and a desire in to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of scientists.
