KEY JOB FUNCTIONS
:

• Provide hair style consultation and perform cut, style, condition, chemical and other styling services for all hair types
• Maintain up to date knowledge of hairstyle trends and products
• Create an image suitable for guests' needs/event according to the physical features of the client, current styles and/or from the client instructions
• Communicate and describe salon offerings, including pricing, and their benefits
• Recommend and up-sell services and products that fit the guests' needs
• Offer the highest level of personalized service while maintaining a positive, enthusiastic, helpful and professional attitude with all guests and team members
• Demonstrate respect, sensitivity and concern for guests' needs in a professional manner
• Responsible for ensuring work area is clean and ready for each client prior to their arrival, and for proper sanitation and restocking after each use according to departmental policy
• Maintain clean, organized work area with adequate supplies and attractively displayed retail products
• Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:


Prior customer service experience. Prior hair stylist experience. Must hold license from New Jersey State Board of Cosmetology and Hairstyling.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Detail oriented

A hairstylist provides beauty services such as cutting, shampooing, coloring, and styling hair, treating and massaging the scalp, straighten style, cut color and weave hair with chemical solutions, and offer clients other hair treatments. They must possess excellent clean lines and sanitation skills and keep the station organize and neat in a professional manner. They must possess excellent communication skills and be able to learn the product and service knowledge necessary to effectively provide beauty solutions to meet the needs of our guests. They must hold and maintain a current state license.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Be fifteen minutes before your shift.
2. Talking to clients and addressing their requirements
3. Provide accurate, appropriate and immediate responses to all requests by guest, ensuring complete guest satisfaction.
4. Cutting hair using scissors and clippers.
5. Shampooing, conditioning and rinsing hair
6. Providing services such as conditioning, bleaching, permanent waving, tinting and straightening hair
7. Drying and styling hair using combs, brushes, straightening irons and any other equipments
8. Trimming moustaches and beards
9. Advising clients on hair care, recommending products and providing technical assistance
10. Cleaning, coloring, adjusting, curling and cutting wigs and hairpieces
11. Attending hairdressing and cosmetics training and seminars in order to keep up to date with emerging techniques and products
12. Keeping client records cards.
13. Selling retail products
14. Cleaning the salon, equipment and work areas
15. Sterilizing and maintaining equipment in good working condition
16. Assist in all areas of salon operation as requested by management.

In addition to duties performed as nail technician, each employee will learn and perform opening and closing procedures as well as point of sale.

Education/Experience:

• High school diploma

Physical Demands:

• Must be able to stand for long periods of time while performing hair styling services
• Requires constant use of hands, arms and upper body motion
• Ability to reach with hands and use wrists occasionally requires some minor lifting, and bending.

Working Conditions:

Work is performed in a comfortable setting, well lighted and ventilated area with minimal outdoor exposure. They will be dealing with chemical (perm solutions, tints, etc) which requires normal safety procedures and must wear gloves when dealing with such chemicals. Occasionally may get loud with noise from other stylists, guests, blow dryers, etc.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

TITLE: Salon Hairdresser DEPARTMENT: Resident Relations & Admissions

RESPONSIBLE TO: Salon Manager

JOB SUMMARY: Performs all advertised services in shop, i.e. shampoo and sets, haircuts, manicures, etc. for residents.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, SKILLS, LICENSURE:

1. High School Diploma/GED or equivalent work experience required.

2. Current Cosmetologist License required.

3. Experience in a beauty shop setting preferred.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

1. Support the mission and purpose of Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury

2. Support the Board of Trustees and Administration.

3. Present a professional, caring image.

4. Employment and annual Tuberculosis testing as required by Virginia State Licensure.

5. Must attend annual mandatory in-services required by the State Licensure and all other mandatory in-services and/or meeting required by other regulatory agencies and/or by Shenandoah Valley Westminster Canterbury

6. Follows and supports the policies and procedures established by SVWC.

7. Practice good customer relations at all times.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Books appointments for clientele.

2. Performs all advertised services in shop, i.e., shampoo and sets, haircuts, manicures, etc. for all residents.

3. Promotes shop and services to new residents.

4. Attends one hair/beauty shop seminar per year to increase skills and be current with styles and procedures.

5. Communicates effectively with Health Center personnel in the handling and the needs of Health Center residents.

6. Completes accounting receipts for services rendered.

7. Keeps shop clean and attractive by sweeping and mopping the floors, dusting, wiping walls, organizing supplies, etc.

8. Reports any changes and/or unusual events regarding residents to supervisor.

9. Ability to work as a team with other staff for benefit of residents.

10. Other duties as assigned.
