Through a combination of demonstrations, readings, and studio experimentation, students will learn hand and machine sewing, applique, and piecing techniques while creating both functional and sculptural textile works. Quilts will serve as the central focus of the course, with additional explorations into related textile forms including banners, soft sculptures, and wearable pieces. Students of all skill levels are welcome-no prior sewing experience required. Together, we'll consider how quilting traditions can function as acts of storytelling, protest, portraiture, and play.
