The function of the successful candidate will be to provide agronomic educational assistance to producers and conduct research on cropping systems for agronomic crops in the Mississippi Delta Region with an emphasis on rice production. The successful candidate will work in unison with other state Extension specialists and county Extension agents to strengthen the overall Extension program by facilitating technology transfer and adoption of best management practices within the Mississippi Delta. In addition, the individual will be expected to collaborate with other Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Experiment Station (MAFES) and Mississippi State University Extension Service (MSU-ES) scientists to ensure research and Extension based programs are focused on the needs of stakeholders. The successful candidate will be an integral member of a strong multi-disciplinary team addressing prevalent issues in crop production systems. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The goal of this position is to evaluate current field issues, enhance educational opportunities for the Delta region clientele, and develop a comprehensive Extension and research program focusing on agronomic aspects of rice production. The successful candidate will work closely with producers, consultants, industry representatives, state Extension specialists, county Extension agents, researchers, and other related parties to identify and assess agronomic issues and develop strategies to improve profitability and reduce risk associated with rice and other complimentary crop production systems. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in other research activities in collaboration with current MAFES and MSU-ES scientists. The successful candidate will be expected to garner extramural funding to support outreach and applied research efforts, and present updates and results in appropriate scholarly publications. A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate research findings and troubleshoot problems with growers and consultants is desired. Considerable local and regional in-state travel will be required to adequately fulfill the position requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
1) Earned Ph. D. in Agronomy, Soil Science, Weed Science or closely related field (ABDs will be considered).

MSU's multidisciplinary Department of Plant and Soil Sciences (PSS) hosts over 200 students in baccalaureate degrees in agronomy and horticulture, and master's and doctoral degrees in agronomy, horticulture, and weed science, both in-person and online. We are housed within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), in the Division of Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine (DAFVM).

5. Works with the director of MAFES and other university research centers to enhance research; develop a research program in applied and fundamental research to meet stakeholder needs and expand knowledge base.
6. Ensures Extension faculty provide statewide educational programming for dissemination of research-based information, including in-service education programs for agents and teaching programs for stakeholders to include scientific-based assessment and evaluation.
7. Identifies, supports, and encourages multi- and interdisciplinary programs that advance knowledge and technology and enhance the development and dissemination of practical applications.
8. Encourages teamwork and promotes cooperation/joint programming, where appropriate, within the department, among division units and across the university.
9. Maximizes the use of existing priority planning groups and advisory councils to identify priorities and plan programs.
10. Provides planning, coordination and support for obtaining goods/services for optimum operation of the department, such as official mail, space allocations, supplies, computer support/services, property control and facilities.
11. Manages the staffing process according to MSU policies and procedures, such as position developing/requisition, application recruitment/review, candidate selection/recommendation and terms of employment.
12. Evaluates performance of departmental faculty on -campus and in cooperation with appropriate research and extension center heads. Responsible for justifying the evaluation with the Dean(s)/Directors(s) or their designees.
13. Recommends opportunities and provides support, when possible, for employee professional growth/development.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ideal candidates are those who have achieved full professor status in plant sciences, agronomic sciences, soil sciences, weed sciences, horticultural sciences or related fields at an accredited institution and qualify for tenure at Mississippi State University.

• Provide instruction and guidance in reading writing competencies. • Provide support for and guidance in the successful completion of the associated gateway course curriculum and assignments. • Jackson State offers classes at four locations, with the main campus located in Jackson, TN. Additional centers include the Lexington-Henderson County Center in Lexington, TN, the Savannah-Hardin County Center in Savannah, TN, and the Gibson County Center in Trenton, TN. Adjunct faculty are hired as needed on a semester-to-semester basis and are expected to provide effective instruction in accordance with the catalog description and the approved course syllabus.
Job Duties
Teach courses via on ground at any of the four JSCC locations. In addition, courses may be administered online, hybrid, or FLEX as assigned.
Teach evening, weekend, off-campus, dual enrollment, and distance-based courses as required.
Utilize the college's learning management system to provide course materials to students.
Submit updated course syllabi at least 1 week prior to the first day of class.
Submit requested content to eLearn course materials at least 1 week prior to the first day of class.
Attend JSCC's adjunct orientation
Regularly check both your JSCC and eLearn emails and respond to emails/messages within 48 hours, except on the weekend.
Provide regular and timely feedback to students on assignments and course progress, including, but not limited to, weekly grades, midterm grades, and meaningful written or oral feedback on individual assignments.
Submit final grades for each semester by the deadline established by the Registrar.
Complete all required College trainings and reports, such as attendance and Early Alerts, by the respective deadlines.
Advise the Department Chair, Dean, and Department Secretary at the earliest possibility if you are unable to teach a class.
Comply with all the College's and TBR's policies and guidelines.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's degree from an accredited institution in a related field.
• Prior teaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Knowledge and/or experience using a variety of instructional delivery modes.
• Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.
• Strong computer skills, including college database (Banner) management, as well as proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
Pay Rate: $600 per credit hour
