The Sumner's Professorship is named after Emeritus Professor of Mathematics De Witt Summers, who pioneered applications of Knot Theory to Biology. The search is for an open rank Professor position in all fields of Mathematics.
Responsibilities of this position includes teaching graduate-level Mathematics courses and advising graduate students on through their progress. The role also includes teaching some undergraduate Mathematical courses as needed.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a doctoral degree or highest degree appropriate from an accredited institution in Mathematics or a related discipline and must have a demonstrated record of exceptional achievements in research, teaching, mentoring and leadership.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have experience working in one or several research areas that complement the existing research focus of the mathematics department.

The Mathematics Department offers BS, MS, and PhD degrees in pure, and several branches of applied mathematics. Currently, there are 40 faculty members, 9 postdoctoral scholars, and over a hundred graduate students specializing in pure, applied and computational mathematics, financial mathematics, biomathematics, and data science. There is a significant interaction among faculty members, postdocs, and students in all these areas of mathematics, as well as with other units within FSU.

Department Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science | College of Arts & Sciences Responsibilities The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Science (EOAS) at the Florida State University (FSU) invites applications for an open-rank tenure-track Professor position in Physical Oceanography. This is an endowed professorship to support an expert in the field of Physical Oceanography whose research and teaching are exemplary. The William K. Dewar Endowed Professorship will provide supplemental funding to support their research and teaching, as well as operational and programmatic expenses.
Appointees are expected to develop and maintain a vigorous externally funded research program in their specialty area of interest and to teach courses and contribute to both the undergraduate and graduate degree programs in the department.
Qualifications
Candidates must hold a doctoral degree or the highest degree appropriate from an accredited institution in Geosciences or a related field. The ideal candidate should have a solid background in addressing fundamental research questions about the functioning of the ocean and have characteristics that encompass original thinking, unconventional ideas, brilliance, innovative, novel, interdisciplinary approaches, and deep theoretical insights.
Applications from those skilled in observational analyses, measurements, modeling, theory, and/or interdisciplinary investigations will be particularly welcomed.
Other Information
EOAS is housed in a recent building (2020) with state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories, has approximately 40 academic faculty members and 135 graduate students, and offers undergraduate and/or graduate degrees in Geology, Meteorology, Oceanography, and Environmental Sciences. FSU also hosts a local High Performance Computing Center. Aside from the faculty within EOAS, the successful candidate can expect collaborations with the Center for Ocean-Atmosphere Prediction Studies, the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Institute, the Coastal and Marine Lab, and the departments of Mathematics and Scientific Computing.

Minimum Qualifications
PhD in Experimental Physical Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry is required. Preference will be given to candidates with post-doctoral experience in Experimental Physical Chemistry or Inorganic Chemistry.
