The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) at Virginia Tech is seeking a highly qualified candidate for a faculty position with a focus on seafood quality, safety, sensory, and engineering. The position will be located at the Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center (VSAREC) (********************************************************* Hampton, Virginia, with tenure home in the Department of Food Science and Technology (**************** Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Virginia. This is a 9-month tenure-track position with 45% Research, 45% Extension, and 10% teaching appointment. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to cocreate a pre-eminent extension and research program on seafood quality, safety, engineering, and security in seafood and related products. This position will assist fisheries professionals, processors, wholesalers, and retail establishments to improve product quality, safety, nutritional aspects, and value; And serve as a key resource for national food safety/security efforts and regulatory requirements under the USDA's Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The successful candidate will work closely with VSAREC faculty and staff, faculty across ARECS, and campus faculty in CALS and other colleges at Virginia Tech. This position will support the University's Global Systems Science Destination area; the CALS Center for Advanced Innovation in Agriculture and Controlled Environmental Agriculture Innovation Centers; and create and support critical links between faculty and programs distributed across AREC's, CALS units, and the University. The position is expected to develop and conduct outreach and educational programs for stakeholders, including producers, educators, processors, consumers, regulatory agencies, and other decision-makers. The individual will be expected to develop and establish nationally and internationally recognized research and extension programs and obtain extramural funding from various sources with an emphasis on competitive and industry funding. Potential research areas may include (but are not limited to) seafood quality, safety, engineering, and cellular agriculture, as well as optimization of value-added and shelf-life applications related to seafood products. Supporting the Universities' Global Systems Science Destination Area, this position will also focus on the transdisciplinary study of the dynamic interplay among natural and social systems. Faculty working in this area collaborate toward transdisciplinary solutions to critical social problems emerging from human activity and environmental change. Linkages with other faculty within and outside the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences are highly encouraged. The successful candidate will also contribute to graduate education. Qualified candidates will demonstrate the ability to recruit and mentor graduate (M.S. and Ph.D.) and undergraduate students and be committed to professional service. Required Qualifications Ph.D. in Food Science or related field, and experience in microbiology, chemistry, quality control, or processing of fish, shellfish, and related food products. The University is seeking productive scholars in Leadership Studies, or a clearly connected area, such as (though not limited to) social or political psychology, organizational psychology, economics, political theory, intellectual history, communication, or philosophy. Given the interdisciplinary nature of Leadership Studies, a candidate's scholarship and teaching in the field would likely integrate expertise from a related field. The successful candidate will be able to teach one or more of our core courses for the major and minor in Leadership Studies, along with one or more elective courses. Posting Details Posting Details Job Title Associate or Full Professor of Trustworthy AI in Cybersecurity (Tenure Track/Tenured, F0853A) Department AI CLUSTER HIRE INITIATIVE Number F0853A Job Description The School of Cybersecurity at Old Dominion University (ODU) invites applicants for a 10-month tenure track/tenured Associate or Full Professor position to begin July 25, 2026 as part of a multi-position hiring initiative for Trustworthy AI. This multi-position cluster hire is part of ODU's Centennial Cluster Initiative, which supports the expansion of transdisciplinary research efforts by prioritizing the hiring of multiple faculty positions targeting specific research areas. The Trustworthy AI cluster hire involves interdisciplinary collaboration among School of Cybersecurity, Department of Computer Science, and Department of Sociology & Criminal Justice, and builds on existing interdisciplinary strengths at ODU.We seek exceptional candidates with strong research track in Trustworthy AI (broadly defined) to serve as the lead of this multi-position cluster, establishing and leading interdisciplinary research in collaboration with existing ODU faculty and other members of the cluster. We are specifically interested in those who work on fundamental issues related to security, safety, and privacy of AI systems.Old Dominion University was founded in 1930. In preparation for our centennial anniversary, the institution initiated the Centennial Cluster Initiative, a hiring program designed to hire interdisciplinary clusters of faculty around emerging themes. As the first step of that initiative, we seek to hire 25 scholars who can contribute to the university's growing research and teaching portfolio in the area of artificial intelligence. Those scholars will be housed in departments across campus and work together on scholarly activities related to artificial intelligence. Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities Ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Ability to work in multidisciplinary settings. A strong research record in Trustworthy AI demonstrated by peer-reviewed publications, a sustained stream of externally funded multidisciplinary research projects. Preferred Qualifications Substantial expertise, experience with recognized scholarship and research in Trustworthy AI. Ability to provide a clear vision and plan for establishing and sustaining a successful externally funded research program through interdisciplinary collaboration with other members of the cluster, faculty in the School of Cybersecurity and across ODU. About the Department The School of Cybersecurity at ODU was established in 2020 and houses one of the largest cybersecurity programs in the nation with a total of about 1700 students. It represents an interdisciplinary effort bringing together over 40 faculty members with a wide range of expertise in Computer Science, Electrical & Computer Engineering, Information Technology, Criminal Justice, Cyber Law, Psychology, and Philosophy. The school offers a B.S. in Cybersecurity with majors in Cybersecurity, Cyber Operations, Cyber Risk Management, and AI for Cybersecurity and an M.S. in Cybersecurity with 4 concentrations including AI Security, AI for Cyber Defense, Cybersecurity Risk Management, and Cyber Conflict and Crime. A Ph.D. program is expected to launch in Fall 2026.Cybersecurity research is flourishing in the school. A diverse portfolio of research projects have been developed by and housed in the school, with a total of over $15 million in active research funding from highly competitive programs at the National Science Foundation (NSF), Office of Naval Research (ONR), National Security Agency (NSA), the Commonwealth of Virginia, and industry. ODU has been designated by NSA as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Research (CAE-R), a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Operations (CAE-CO), and a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense (CAE-CD). ODU is among a handful of elite universities that have received all three CAE designations.
