The Assistant Program Director is responsible for providing day to day supervision of program and designated staff members. The Assistant Program Director works with other programs to ensure coordination, communication and the integration of program services. The Assistant Program Director assists with strategic oversight of monitoring budget, audits and all components of Program compliance.

Essential Functions: ● Development of programs including establishing and adapting programs as needed while assuring program goals are in alignment with agency mission and needs of recipients. Maintain up-to-date knowledge in order to consistently evaluate program adaptation and/or expansion in correlation with existing needs. ● Resolves problems in service provision and conflicts among staff. ● Participates and documents training on a regular basis for all areas/staff when required. ● Provides supervision to staff assigned, identifying learning needs and addressing limitations. ● Evaluate staff performance, participate in staff hiring, and oversees disciplinary actions. ● Coordinate schedules of staff and recipients. ● Prepares and submits statistical reports as required. ● Identifies appropriate community contacts/agencies to establish a network for communication, referrals, and working relationships. ● Meet performance expectations/metrics, as defined for the position within the assigned program. ● Perform other related duties as assigned. The Center for Urban Community Services, a national leader in the development of effective housing and service initiatives for homeless people, invites applications for Assistant Program Directors (2 positions) at 90 Sands Street, new supportive permanent housing residence located in the Dumbo section of Brooklyn.

90 Sands Street, the newly renovated 30 story former Watchtower Society building will offer 491 units of permanent supportive housing for low-income tenants with 305 of these units for homeless individuals with histories of mental illness and / or substance abuse. Breaking Ground is the developer, owner and property manager.

CUCS will provide comprehensive on-site social services using a recovery and person-centered orientation, which include evidence based practices with particular emphasis on mental health and chemical dependency.

The Assistant Program Director works closely with the Program Director in the overall management of the program. This includes participating in regular development team meetings, recruiting staff, planning for the implementation of CUCS policies at the site, and helping to develop new policies as necessary. This position oversees the on-site medical or psychiatric services and ensures the effective utilization of these services. This position supervises Clinical Supervisors and per diem staff. The Assistant Program Director is central to fostering the mission and goals of the agency and to creating a program culture that is client-centered, outcome-oriented and dedicated to continuous quality improvement.

The position requires a thorough understanding of relevant service delivery concepts and structures, including strong knowledge and experience with mental health systems, and the ability to access and negotiate the full range of services for recipients. It also requires strong supervisory and administrative skills and the ability to interface effectively and efficiently with colleagues, funders and other stakeholders to ensure quality services and program operations.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States Department of Education (USDE).
