In a construction site, the assistant site manager is the one reporting to site managers and conducting the majority of administrative tasks. They use their organization, people management, and communication skills to ensure that the project remains on schedule and all operations are done under health and safety rules.
Specifically, an assistant site manager is responsible for monitoring the inventory of supplies, communicating instructions to workers, negotiating with contractors or subcontractors, and reporting any relevant issues to the site managers. Some assistant site managers are also responsible for preparing work schedules and collaborating with other stakeholders of the construction project.
The typical minimum requirements for this position include a bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or similar, as well as two to five years of experience in construction project management. An assistant site manager must also exhibit proficiency in recordkeeping, digital project management systems, and negotiation to succeed in this role.
