THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the EVP, General Counsel (“GC”), the SVP manages a team of attorneys and non-attorney professionals that provides strategic legal counsel in the areas of Product, Privacy, Commercial Transactions, and Intellectual Property and Media. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide strategic counsel to business development teams from deal conception, through contracting, execution, and performance.
Advise, structure, negotiate, and draft agreements for a wide variety of transactions, including product development partnerships, supplier contracts, media sales agreements, consulting services agreements, NDAs, brand licensing, commercial sponsorship agreements, among others.
As an integrated partner in digital capabilities workstreams, provide counseling in the product development process on issues related to data privacy, data use, use of AI, and compliance with consumer protection laws and regulations; ensure that AARP develops products and adopts digital capabilities aligned to core non-profit governance principles.
As Privacy Officer, oversee maturity of data privacy compliance framework for AARP, AARP Services, Inc. and all other affiliates.
Interpret new AI and privacy laws and application to AARP and its affiliates. Advise on AI and privacy trends, legislation, and requirements to Board, C-Suite, Advocacy and Public Policy team. Provide leadership in the adoption of AI, including generative and agentic AI.
Advise the AgeTech Collaborative from AARP on startup accelerator programming, startup investments, and efforts to engage stakeholders in AgeTech.
Oversee and advise on IP and media law matters, including rights management and permissions, defamation, copyright, domain names, and trademark clearance and registration.
Oversee and advise on corporate real estate matters, including leasing and property management.
Manage and develop team of attorneys and legal support staff.
Assist with managing legal services provided by outside counsel. Act as liaison with outside counsel and advisors.
Represent OGC as a collaborative, responsive and innovative partner, maintaining credibility, trust, and support with all staff in all internal departments.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Juris Doctor degree and active membership, in good standing, to at least one state and/or the District of Columbia bar.
At least fifteen (15) years of legal practice experience, including foundational training in a law firm setting.
The ideal candidate will also bring at least two (2) years of in-house practice experience.
In-depth knowledge of and experience drafting and negotiating contracts and agreements also required.
Experience working with, or working as, a product attorney.
Knowledge of privacy, IP, and media law.
Excellent legal research and writing skills.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range for this role: $290,000 - $310,000. The Deputy General Counsel provides strategic leadership for the Office of General Counsel (OGC), overseeing a team of senior attorneys and ensuring the effective management of daily operations. Key Responsibilities:

Participation in the contract review process and subsidiary/affiliate corporate governance. The approximate annual base compensation range for this position is [$150,000 to $200,000]. Requirements
A day in the life of a VP of Branch Operations will include:
Promoting a sales culture and ensures that staff receive proper training and coaching to demonstrate abilities to sell/cross-selling products based on member needs
Leading and motivating a group of branches to attain or exceed branch loan, deposit, and revenue goals
Coaching and mentoring branch managers and staff on career development and sales process.
Creating and foster a culture of exceptional member service and sales
Being responsible for final approval of hiring, escalated progressive discipline, performance evaluation approvals, and performance development of staff. Conducts interviews, screening processes, hiring and performance management of Branch Managers and their staff as needed
Assisting managers in resolving complex member complaints
Monitoring the branch operating results relative to the goals that have been established by the executive team. Develops individual and team goals to reach branch goals
Assisting in directing the planning, recommending, and implementing programs and policies within the branches.
Monitoring branch activity, including tellers - number of transactions, volume, teller errors, cash ordering and ATM balancing, full vault security and balancing.
Working with the PVP of Business Development to develop operational procedures to maximize efficiency and quality of work to provide consistent quality service to members.
Holding periodic staff meetings to discuss areas needing improvement, changes in procedures, new developments, or services and to present general information.
Managing sales, service, and operational results by analyzing, planning, organizing, budgeting, monitoring/controlling, problem solving, decision making and managing change. Deliver reports in a timely and accurate manner.

Experience:
Ten years or more of similar or related experience to include seven years in financial institution/banking in a management role
Education:
A two- year college degree or completion of specialized certification/training
