JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
RMIS Team Support:
Provide strategic legal guidance to RMIS team regarding insurance-related risks, coverage design, and enterprise risk transfer strategies.
Develop and implement internal legal and compliance policies related to insurance.
Participate in audits, training, and risk assessments to support corporate compliance and claims best practices.
Serve as an officer of the captive ensuring compliance and strategic effectiveness.
Claims Defense:
Support claims management by advising on complex or high-exposure claims, subrogation opportunities, and settlement negotiations.
Provide legal opinions on coverage issues, claims, and related disputes under applicable state and federal laws.
Advise internal stakeholders on coverage determinations, reservations of rights, denials, and related claims matters.
Represent the organization in coverage litigation and coordinate with outside counsel as needed.
Manage litigation matters as lead counsel, including case assessment, pleadings, discovery, depositions, expert coordination, and trial preparation and participation.
Program Policy and Coverage Management:
Draft, review, and update Captive insurance policies, endorsements, and underwriting guidelines to ensure compliance and alignment with risk management strategies.
Analyze and interpret insurance policies, including general liability, professional liability, property, pollution, cyber, and other specialty lines.
Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting insurance coverage and ensure timely updates to policy language.
Collaborate with internal teams and external brokers/insurers to assess insurance needs and maintain appropriate coverage.
Farm Credit System Engagement:
Deliver presentation - speak at carrier and broker meetings, board and client board meetings, internal team presentations, conferences, webinars and other key engagements.
Loss Mitigation:
Develop Loss mitigation strategies - assist in complex loss prevention efforts, including customer policy updates (i.e. handbooks), regulatory impact assessments and risk mitigation best practices.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admission to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction required.
10+ years of legal experience with a strong focus on insurance coverage law, preferably in-house or with a firm focused on insurance matters.
Deep knowledge of property & casualty insurance and related regulatory frameworks.
Strong legal writing and research skills.
Excellent communication and negotiation ability.
Highly organized to service and prioritize the needs of multiple customers simultaneously.

OVERVIEW:

Our Client's Patent Prosecution team is actively recruiting for a junior Patent Associate to join the Intellectual Property group in our Chicago, Denver, Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Philadelphia, Washington DC, or Wilmington offices.
Successful candidates should have 1-3 years of experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications. A background and degree(s) in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent technical expertise will be considered. Having a degree in engineering is preferred. State bar admission and admission with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) is required.
Candidates must be collaborative and motivated to succeed in a client-focused, team-oriented environment. Candidates must also have excellent academic credentials and have strong written and oral communications skills. This position offers competitive compensation and unlimited potential for professional growth. Current firm plans for returning to work include an average of 2-3 days in the office.
The anticipated initial annual salary range for someone who is hired into this position is $160,000 $255,000.
Actual initial salary may be above or below the above-identified range and will be based on the relevant skills, training, experience, and other job-related factors, including the location of where the position is filled and consistent with applicable law. The initial salary range listed above is just one component of the Firms total compensation and benefits package for attorneys, which includes, but is not limited to, productivity and discretionary bonuses; life, health, accident and disability insurance; and a 401(k) plan.
