POSITION SUMMARY
Corporate litigation attorney will be acting as counsel of record, representing various healthcare facilities under our management. Must be confident and comfortable handling full case responsibility from intake, pleadings, discovery, motion practice, up to trial preparations. This is an in-house position, and may include some corporate/transactional work, but will focus primarily on our litigation needs.
Reporting directly to senior corporate counsel, and executive management. _This position may require working remotely and occasional travel._
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
This position requires a California State Bar license. Must have at least 1-5 years of hands-on litigation experience. Must be admitted, or capable of admission, to all California Courts. Additional preferred experience in: actual trial, arbitration and mediation, labor commissioner, administrative law, healthcare/patient collections, malpractice, elder abuse, and negligence. Strong work ethic. Ability to prioritize and stay motivated.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESI. GENERAL
* Employment litigation defense is required, such as wrongful termination, harassment, discrimination, wage and hour. Must have a working knowledge of employment laws, and experience with these cases.
* This will include conducting internal investigations with respect to active litigation, demand letters, and HR complaints.
* Business/commercial litigation is required, such as customer/vendor disputes. Mostly defense, some prosecution. Must know how to review underlying invoices, account statements, contracts.
* Must be autonomous, able to go from consultation with non-legal company reps, to research, to preparing and filing a complaint.
* Must be able to receive a demand letter and/or a compliant, and take on the necessary investigation and filing of responsive pleadings.
* Preparing correspondence and documents
* Filing, typing, and using computer software with emphasis on basic word processing and spreadsheet applications.
* Communicating with employees and management.
* Coordinating special projects as directed.
* Read and analyze incoming memos, submissions, and reports to determine their significance and plan response.
* File and retrieve corporate documents, records, and reports.
* Compile data, and prepare papers for consideration and presentation by executives, committees and Boards of Directors.
* Conduct interviews with employees and management.
* Summarize depositions, testimony and interrogations.
* Attend relevant meetings and events.
* Draft legal documents such as contracts.

KIND seeks a Staff Attorney to provide expert legal services to unaccompanied children needing legal representation through zealous direct representation as well as pro bono facilitation, including robust consultation, training, and technical assistance to pro bono attorneys who have accepted KIND cases. As needed, supervise Senior Paralegals, Paralegals, interns, and/or other non-attorney staff. The Staff Attorney will report to the Supervising Attorney.
This position is contingent upon continued funding.
Essential Functions:
Provide both mentoring to KIND pro bono attorneys and direct legal representation to KIND clients.
In the pro bono mentoring function, provide robust consultation and technical assistance to pro bono attorneys who have accepted a KIND case.
In the direct representation function, perform ordinary functions of legal counsel including legal research and formulating the legal strategy for the case; conducting client interviews; appearing before immigration and/or state courts or agencies; and drafting and filing court pleadings and applications for benefits.
Supervise interns and/or other non-attorney staff as needed including:
Onboarding, skills training, daily support and coaching, review and quality assurance of filings, regular check-ins and performance evaluations, and provision of consistent and effective supervision and oversight.
Place cases with pro bono attorneys and actively build relationships between KIND and the pro bono community.
In coordination with KIND's Training and Technical Assistance Team and the local field office Senior Attorney/s, as needed, help develop pro bono training resources and local training curriculum, including sample filings and guidance packets. With supervision, present trainings to pro bono attorneys and community groups.
Contribute to overall office functioning, including actively participating in field office and KIND-wide calls and meetings, field office and KIND-wide committees, and assisting with office events.
Ensure entry of timely, accurate, and detailed case data into KIND's case management systems.
Represent KIND at local coalitions, courts, and agencies.
Qualifications and Requirements:
J.D. and admitted to the local state bar (If not admitted to local state bar, must sit for bar exam or start waiver to be admitted within 6 months and be able to be admitted within one year of employment).
Fluent in English and Spanish (required for direct communication with the children we serve and their caregivers, the majority of whom are Spanish-speaking).
Minimum of 1 year of experience practicing immigration law, which should include representation of clients in humanitarian immigration claims such as asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, U visas, and T visas.
Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children, preferably immigrant and refugee children.
Experience working with law firm attorneys and/or other legal volunteers if the majority of the caseload is working directly with pro bono attorneys.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.).
Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate.

Analyze probable outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents
Manage the workload of cases
Provide legal analysis for clients to determine any possible case benefits
Accrue additional evidence to support the client's case or for arguments against the prosecution's charges
Prepare clients for depositions; determine essential goals of case strategy and gather information from witnesses and important experts that support the client's positions
Qualifications
Demonstrated interest in Criminal Defense law from Law School clinics, volunteer work, or internship experience
Juris Doctorate degree
Active bar admission (law graduates awaiting admission will also be considered)

Position Summary:
KIND seeks a Staff Attorney to provide expert legal services to unaccompanied children needing legal representation through zealous direct representation as well as pro bono facilitation, including robust consultation, training, and technical assistance to pro bono attorneys who have accepted KIND cases. As needed, supervise Senior Paralegals, Paralegals, interns, and/or other non-attorney staff. The Staff Attorney will report to the Supervising Attorney.
This position is contingent upon continued funding.
Essential Functions:
* Provide both mentoring to KIND pro bono attorneys and direct legal representation to KIND clients.
* In the pro bono mentoring function, provide robust consultation and technical assistance to pro bono attorneys who have accepted a KIND case.
* In the direct representation function, perform ordinary functions of legal counsel including legal research and formulating the legal strategy for the case; conducting client interviews; appearing before immigration and/or state courts or agencies; and drafting and filing court pleadings and applications for benefits.
* Supervise interns and/or other non-attorney staff as needed including:
* Onboarding, skills training, daily support and coaching, review and quality assurance of filings, regular check-ins and performance evaluations, and provision of consistent and effective supervision and oversight.
* Place cases with pro bono attorneys and actively build relationships between KIND and the pro bono community.
* In coordination with KIND's Training and Technical Assistance Team and the local field office Senior Attorney/s, as needed, help develop pro bono training resources and local training curriculum, including sample filings and guidance packets. With supervision, present trainings to pro bono attorneys and community groups.
* Contribute to overall office functioning, including actively participating in field office and KIND-wide calls and meetings, field office and KIND-wide committees, and assisting with office events.
* Ensure entry of timely, accurate, and detailed case data into KIND's case management systems.
* Represent KIND at local coalitions, courts, and agencies.
Qualifications and Requirements:
* J.D. and admitted to the local state bar (If not admitted to local state bar, must sit for bar exam or start waiver to be admitted within 6 months and be able to be admitted within one year of employment).
* Fluent in English and Spanish (required for direct communication with the children we serve and their caregivers, the majority of whom are Spanish-speaking).
* Minimum of 1 year of experience practicing immigration law, which should include representation of clients in humanitarian immigration claims such as asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, U visas, and T visas.
* Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children, preferably immigrant and refugee children.
* Experience working with law firm attorneys and/or other legal volunteers if the majority of the caseload is working directly with pro bono attorneys.
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (such as Teams, Excel, etc.).
* Ability to work collaboratively and multi-task in our KIND environment, managing numerous priorities and emerging opportunities.
* Excellent organizational skills with the ability to work on multiple projects in a deadline-oriented environment; ability to prioritize tasks and delegate as appropriate.

JOB DESCRIPTION
CCLS seeks a full-time, experienced Staff Attorney to be a part of its dynamic Housing Team. Our Housing Team oversees and implements the Shriver Right to Counsel and Homelessness Prevention Projects, which act to prevent homelessness. The Staff Attorney will carry a caseload of eviction defense (unlawful detainer) and affirmative litigation cases and provide general legal support to clients across the Central Valley. In addition to carrying their own caseload, the Staff Attorney will participate in community outreach events and legal clinics and workshops in partnership with community-based organizations. They will also work with volunteer law attorneys from private law firms who are providing pro bono representation to clients facing eviction and uninhabitable conditions. Through their work, the Staff Attorney will ensure safe and affordable housing and prevent individuals and families from being evicted into homelessness.

Work with a fast-paced eviction team, including attorneys and paralegals, to negotiate with opposing counsel, work directly with clients to help them stay housed, prepare discovery requests and responses, draft pleadings, motions and correspondence, negotiate settlements, conduct unlawful detainer bench and jury trials, and pursue appellate remedies;
