*Minimum Qualifications:*
* Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited legal institution.
* Licensed by and in good standing with the California Bar.
* At least two (2) years' experience practicing as an attorney. Previous litigation experience highly preferred, preferably related to plaintiff side personal injury matters. Insurance defense experience a plus.
* Excellent working knowledge of California and federal rules of civil procedure.
* Demonstrated ability to take/defend depositions, manage discovery, draft legal pleadings/motions, and conduct research.
* Experience attending court hearings, arbitrations, and mediations.
* Strong writing, communication, and organizational skills.
* Interest and aptitude to represent clients in contested forums ranging from jury trials, court trials, and arbitrations to before various public board forums and the state capitol.
* Strong desire to passionately advocate for clients.
* Ability to adhere to firm processes, procedures, and practices.
* Willingness to talk on the phone, or in-person without hesitation. Not overly depending on texting or emailing to avoid human contact.
* Ability to travel as case assignment warrants.

*Responsibilities:*
* Provide comprehensive representation of plaintiffs in civil litigation/personal injury matters (including but not limited to automobile accidents, catastrophic injuries, medical malpractice, products liability, negligence, toxic material exposure/asbestosis, dog bites, wrongful death etc.).
* Provide comprehensive legal advice to clients on a variety of matters as described above and communicate with clients effectively and in a timely manner.
* Conduct legal research and factual investigation to prepare legal documents and develop strategies.
* Draft legal documents/pleadings, take and defend depositions, draft and answer discovery, draft and respond to demand letters, negotiate settlement agreements, arbitration/trial preparation.
* Handle all disputed matters from inception through mediation or trial. Pursues informal resolution tactics when applicable.
* Keep up-to-date with the latest legal developments affecting personal injury caselaw and statutes, etc.
* Independently manage caseload and stay abreast of deadlines.
* Establish and maintain relationships, credibility and trust with clients, legal team members, and other colleagues.
* Attend client events/meetings as required.

Affirmative Civil Enforcement: Responsibilities include enforcement investigations and litigation involving healthcare fraud, procurement fraud, grant fraud, financial fraud, pharmaceutical diversion, wildlife recovery actions, and civil rights enforcement, among other things.
Asset Forfeiture: Responsibilities include using criminal and civil asset forfeiture proceedings to seize, restrain, encumber, and ultimately forfeit proceeds and property that is involved in, facilitates, is traceable to, used in, or acquired through illegal activities. Initiate seizures and forfeitures and seek appropriate civil and criminal remedies to prevent recoverable assets from be dissipated or concealed; take all steps necessary to return forfeited assets to crime victims and the government.
Defense: Responsibilities include defending the United States, federal agencies, and federal employees in all manner of lawsuits, including employment-discrimination actions; medical malpractice, personal injury, and other tort actions; Administrative Procedure Act cases; challenges to land management decisions under the National Environmental Policy Act and other environmental statutes; Social Security, Medicare, and other federal programs; and "Bivens" civil rights actions.
The selected applicant(s) will be based in our Sacramento office and will collaborate with other criminal and civil Assistant U.S. Attorneys based in both Sacramento and Fresno, and will be supported by a staff of paralegals, investigators, auditors, and other professionals.

Applicants must have a demonstrated capacity to function in a highly demanding environment.
Applicants will be expected to do their own legal research and writing and will be substantially self-sufficient in preparing day-to-day correspondence and pleadings. Applicants must also demonstrate excellent computer literacy skills to include experience with automated research on the Internet, electronic court filing, and electronic e-mail and word processing systems.
